Default Cobra With Dry Sump System

how many original shelby cobra 427 were built with the dry sump lubrication system? (with a separated oil reservoir instead of the traditional oil sump)
how many of you guys have that system in their replica?
is it a system that can be fitted on every V8 or the engine must to be engineered that way?

Default Dry Sump Oil System

I think that there were 3 original dry sump comp cars. There appears to be one CSX 4000 alloy car that has an aluminum Shelby built supercharged dry sumped motor in it.

Smile I've got one!

Yeager,
I had "Race Parts Distribution Inc." build one of these for me almost 2 years ago. I don't know how many they have built since mine, as I was the 1st one they did. It wasn't cheap, but it sure gives me constant oil pressure of about 80#. Aviad did the special oilpan for us. Preston Miller from RDI spent alot of time in the engineering of the components and how to make them fit in the engine compartment and keep the weight centered, instead of locating the tank in the rear as in most race cars.

I must add, the expense is only worth it if you are going to track the car!

Hope this helps,
TL

I spoke w/ Preston @ RDI over Memorial Day weekend 2007. I don't believe, from our conversation, that he has built another system. I asked if he was going to and he indicated that there hadn't been enough interest and that it was fairly expensive. About $2,500 I believe.

Roush has a system that they showed us during a tour this weekend. If my understanding is correct it is available for purchase. Check their website.

Terry, I saw the system that you bought from Preston during the development. Way cool. I wanted it and still hope to add drysump.

Default Looking for a system?

Yeager If you are looking for a Dry Sump system for an FE motor, I know of 2 places. Avivad sell a whole system with brackets, pump, oil pan, spacers, gears, belt and the correct style oil tank in the r/s front fender. You would need to cut a hole in the fender for the fill. There pump is rebuildable. Dove has a pump in the oil pan that is orginial for cobras and GT-40. Try there web site for more info. The price on both kits is about $3,500.00. I doubt that includes the lines to tank, cooler, and adapter housing. Hope this helps Rick L. I am going with an Avivad system on my next motor. It is a basic bolt on system.
