Hydraulic Throw out bearing
Well,
BDR 559 arrived today (yeaaaaaaa). Getting ready to drop the 410W and TKO 600 when I realized that the quicktime bellhousing doesn't accomodate a slave and I will need to run a hydraulic T/O bearing. It has been recommeded that I use the McLeod but I'm not 100% sure which one I need? 1. MCL-1400-30? or 2. MCL-1364? Also is there a spacer (MCL-1439) needed for iether? Thanks, Mark |
We use Quicktime bellhousings and external slave cylinders on every car we sell now. A great combo... no need to go with a hydro t/o bearing.

Just call them, you will need to know the distant from the flywheel face to where the trans bolt to the bell housing
|
Jay,
Thanks for your help. Reg had told me that it wouldn't.. I will explore in more detail in the morning... |
Might be as good idea to check out the Tilton unit...easier to adjust. Badger

Absolutely go with external slave cylinder, just ask JAMO.
My shaft mounted McLeod failed before I even put the car down from the lift. Then I went with the external slave. No problems and better feel, IMO. Good luck. |

Do not use a hydraulic Throw out bearing......gigantic PIA!

Assolutely the most vile POS PIA concept ever conceived. |
Hummm,
Mine has worked well for years. Just a pia to get it bled out. Clois |
Here's my two cents on HTOB.
Pros - Don't need space for a slave cylinder - Don't need to buy/fabricate a bracket to hold the slave cylinder Cons - If you don't get the spacing just right, it'll leak. - If you don't install a stop block to prevent over extension, it'll leak. - If you don't secure the hydraulic lines inside the bell housing and they touch the spinning assembly, it'll leak. - (This is the big one) If it leaks, you'll have to pull the entire transmission and likely replace the hydraulic fluid soaked clutch to fix it. After dropping my transimssion several times, I threw away my McLeod HTOB and installed a clutch fork and slave cylinder on a bracket I made. I haven't had another problem with my clutch operation. |
clarification, they are both hydraulic, one is external and one is on the input shaft. . . .

Jay,
I can't make out your picture very well... What bracket are you using to mount the standard BDR slave to the bell housing? |
I installed a Tilton HTOB in my Lakewood scattershield 7 years ago. I followed the instructions for installing and adjusting it, never had a problem. Bleeding it was no problem as I installed a 2' length of SS flexible hose and put the bleeder on the end of it. No need to even go under the car to bleed it.

I have had my Tilton HTB in for 25k miles. I have never had a problem.

Usually it's the fault of the installer. They forget to put a pedal stop or adjust it wrong and it over strokes the bearing, popping the seal. My Tilton has been working flawlessly for 25k miles.

Friend of mine installed a bearing of a mercedes van (don't know which); after that, it worked flawless.
