We were talking about Richard petty's win record yesterday at work. Had a bit of a disagreement with a guy who isn't really into racing. He said Petty's record will be broken. I say... NO WAY IN HELL!!! The sport has become too restricted to become more competitive. If they did this... the sport is over...

FSST;
I don't think Richard Petty's record will ever be broken. Not because there aren't numerous outstanding drivers out there, but because the racing formats and point/scoring systems are so radically different in this "modern era"

Hey, NHRA is some what the same. Take Funny Cars. The announcer says here comes the Chevy or Pontiac, when in the only thing Chevy or Pontiac is the name on the front of the car. There is not one GM part on these cars.
AS for NASCAR I would bet there are no Ford or Chev or Mopar parts either.
They must use World or Dart or some other beefed up Blocks, custom heads and all other accessories.
I stopped watching NASCAR when they stopped using Stock cars (read, cars manufactured by Big Three).
Now I must confess I have a Backdraft Cobra. I have a Dart block, AFR heads,
Edelbrock manifold, etc. But I do have Ford Valve covers, so I guess I can call it a Ford.

Tony Stewart is a great driver, he has won races and champoinships in everything he has ever driven....(BTW: I'm NOT a big Stewart fan), but, he is also the BIGGEST cry baby out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was not a big Earnhardt fan either, thought NASCAR let him get away with too much stuff.....remember when he took out Terry Labonte at Bristol???? Terry still won the race and afterwards Big E said he "was just trying to rattle his cage" speaking of Labonte, well,when Mayfield does the same to Big E, they asked Mayfield about it and he says "I was just trying to rattle his cage", Big E just grinned and had nothing to say.....Big E was a great driver,one thing I liked about him was he wasn't a cry baby!!!!!! He took out guys and when he got taken out he didn't whine about it.....
NASCAR is turning into a Spec Series and about the only races I watch now are the 2 road races........

Sneaky Darksider
Hey, this gives me an idea. If you're a closeted darksider, you can install an R07 Cheby fitted with Ford valve covers in your Cobra or GT40 and no one . . . or at least most . . . won't know the difference. Might not even devalue your Cobra or GT40.

I remember hearing a story about Bill Elliott's father who was a die hard Ford guy. When he passed away they had to get a FORD hearse and nothing else to get him to the cemetary. Now guys change manufacturers based on $$$. Who would have thought Mark Martin would leave Jack Rousch and now drive chevy's. I won't waste 4 hours of a Sunday afternoon watching a one hour pre-race dog and pony show and then 10 commercials for every 10 laps of racing. I'll T-VO it and watch the last 30 laps commercial free at 9:00 pm in about 15 minutes.
