Watkins Glen Vintage re-enactment...
Next weekend Sept.7-9 . Starting on friday sept 7. downtown Watkins Glen NY, they close the main street and bring about 250 "Vintage" race cars and re-enact the "Original" races from the 50's. The cars are by groups. Street closes at 1pm . The cars are parked right on the street for pics etc. The re-enactment "races" start about 6pm. thru th e6 mile original course. It a chance to see ,up close , original Cobras, Vettes, Trans Am , Jags, etc cars from the start of road racing in America. CaAM & MG's Ferrari & prosche...
It's a special time. One of my best memories was seeing John Fitch & Phil Walters stop right in front of us in a Cunningham special. Sights & sounds you will NEVER forget!
Also several vineyards have tents on the sidewalks ,selling a cool refreshing beverage. Plus a few jazz combos up & down main street.
The racing continues thru the weekend at the track. A special place if you love sportscar racing history. Also visit the Racing museum right in downtown.
If you come , DON't miss the downtown events. It really is like going back to the 50's & 60's.
Check out GRANDPRIXFESTIVAL.COM and THEGLEN websites for more info.
ENJOY!!!

We are going. The last 2 years I drove my car up from Valley Forge Pa. Cruised all around, did a Rally etc etc. The roads up there are Awesome! and the entire weekend is one of my favorites for the year.

I usually just rip it up the North East Extension to 81, then 17w. My dickhead boss just told me I can't go because he says he needs me to be here, so I am at a crossroads. Quit!, or just go anyway and see what happens........ect... I am Really HOT right now. I will look on a map and check out the route you are taking however.

I sure hope no cars crashed in all those vintage races, or that's going to be an interesting "re-enactment".

Driving the original road course is a real thrill not so much for the speed as about 50 mph is fast enough on those old well worn roads. The real thrill is imagining the skills and courage it took to drive that course so many years ago. Narrow stone bridges as well as crossing over RR tracks and the road is barely two lane wide.
We do the old course almost every trip to the Glen and for anybody who wants to give the course a test drive it is clearly marked and since it is all public roads it is open all the time.
Stop off at the Seneca Lodge Bar for a beer during one of your laps as it is as famous for it's many racers having tipped a few as the track itself.
The Watkins Glen Vintage GP is said to be the largest gathering of vintage racecars in the USA.

Hey, JB, you need to get creative.
Just tell your boss that the voices in your head are telling you that you MUST go home and clean all your guns that weekend.
Then tell him that if you don't do what the voices say they make you VERY angry with all the complaining they do.

Jack, I hope we are able to spend more time together this year. I've got your cell # in my phone. The forecast keeps changing, so I may go in the Jeep, if it looks like rain.
