Default "Skinning" the Footbox

I've been thinking (always a dangerous pasttime ) that I might attempt to take my fiberglass footbox and skin it with aluminum and then use the fiberglass front wheel liners as templates to fabricate aluminum ones.

Has anyone already done something like this and were you satisfied with the results?

Not sure if this is what you mean..

Prior to painting the body

and once painted during one of many engine rebuilds....

and the interior.

Most of the glass was left in position and just covered. The inner guards were completly cut out..

i think I did what your talking abut - the fibreglass wheel wheel were left in place and I just attached the alum straight to it. made up templates in cardboard. Not too tricky - the wells were certainly harder then the footboxes due to compund curves etc. I love the look - although it need a bit of a polish or scotchbrite.

I think B+B sells them as an option.

Bernie & Tenrocca - Yes that is what I am looking to do. Both of your results look great. Did you need to use a break to bend the aluminum? I'm in a good position at right now as most everything is still apart so I can work on it out of the car.

Jim - I have looked at buying the aluminum footbox and liners from B&B but wanted to explore covering what I already have as I would then have a little more money to spend on other options.

One of the first things I did when I started my build was make a home made brake - plans are in my gallery if you want to take a look. The curves around the foot wells were formed with a rubber mallet around a large diameter pipe! . Very technical.
