Need advice 1st time drive
Hello All,
I would like to to find out from most of you that have built your car how you test tune the car for the road. I am in the process of finally putting the car on the road for final testing. Everything is done except paint. I am planning on final tweaking the car before stripping it down to send the body off for paint.
How many of you have done the same ? Or did you just drive around the car around the block a few times and send the body to paint and final tweak everything with the body painted.
DO they offer 6 month insurance?
The problem is if I insure the car they will require a photo of the car and without carpet and paint these cars do not look like much
suggestions?

My Roadster was completely painted and put together before it ever left the garage under its own power. Part of the reason is the wiring harness in mine is routed through the body, so I figured that if I had the body painted I would only have to put it totally together one time and hope that I did everything correctly!!
3 years and 12,000 miles later I can say that I must have done it right the first time!!

I'm with Terry, my car was completed and had run several times before it left the barn.
I made short runs and adjusted things as I drove the car.
If you never tuned a car before, you might want to get help or ask this forum.

I don't know about your insurance carrier, but my homeowners did NOT cover the car while it was being built. You might want to check into that and make sure you have some type of insurance to protect your investment before and after it is on the road.

I did about 40 miles on my car before sending it to paint. That was 2 miles at a time. But I found out a few things and made some adjustments. I was suprised that I never ran across a trooper. I thought that it was better to sort most things out and not have to wrench too much on the car after the paint job. I was chekcing the guages to see that everything was working and the temeratures were where they were supposed to be. Also got it on the lift after every run to look for leaks. I am still concerned about the first real cruise. Trust me I am not a supporter of driving without the proper papers but I felt like I had no choice and just took a chance. Probably not the smartest thing I ever did but...

See if you can insure before you paint it and raise the declared amount after it is painted. Of course the premium will be a little higher. In Alabama we can get a vin number without painting the car. If you can put 500 miles on it before you paint it would be better. You might want to change something, enlarge sidepipe cutouts, etc.

I finished my car completely before I even started the engine.I primed the carb started it and ran it for the first 20 minutes at 2000 rpm, checked for leaks and went for a drive. I discovered with my first Cobra I drove it way before it was finished and I really never finished it properly until just before I sold it,and then I was sorry that I had never got the chance to use it looking as good as it did then. But to be honest I am still always working on something with the car, changing this and that.

I spoke to my future insurance carrrier and they informed me that I could insure the car 80 % completed with an agreed value. I will need to provide pictures of the car for insurance. Once the car has been fine tuned I will send it to paint for final completion
