Default Cobra By Legate 1984... Worth buying?

I saw this on eBay and want to hear from anyone who has read it or owns a copy.
How does it fit into the Trevor Legate series with the books that followed, Cobra-The Real Thing and the recent Cobra, The First Forty Years. More of the same or is this a find???

Cobra 1984 Edition

Trevor???

The earlier versions had a lot of misspellings. He uses a spellchecker now.

Seriously...everything he's written is a find.

Step owtside an saye that Jamo. Cad. Spellchecker indeed...

The 1984 book was my first effort at the saga, when I was young and naieve, in a dark distant time before ClubCobra, if anyone recalls. The Real Thing was done by another publisher and was the 1984 book redesigned, with some new pics and an updated section. The 40 Years book was done entirely by yours truly as I was never totally happy with the other two, so I re-wrote it from the start, shot a lot of new snaps, found a load more 'stuff' and made the book I always wanted, just about...
Trouble is the saga just goes on and on (and on) what with people like the Kirkhams - you might have heard of them - adding to the story with some excellent genuine fake replicas etc etc.

If you can get the book from ebay, good luck - I keep getting out-bid!!!

But - if anyone wants a genuine non-replica copy of Cobra from me, signed by my own quill and all that stuff, I do happen to have one available (not cheap)

I have a copy of Trevor's latest tome the 40 Years book and it is absolutely wonderful! I compare this work to Karl Ludvigsen's "Excellence Was Expected" about Porsche.

I have a copy for Trevor's book signed from him. Especially nice is the alternate book cover..I've about worn out the signed jacket now I've looked at the book so much...I should have taken the jacket off to preserve it...
Trevor...What was the web page address again to see the Euro version cover and those fantastic prints that you have available...I need another print for my office...and maybe one for a gift....

Petrol money? Any kind of money would be good..... :-(

Blas - our publishing website has crashed due to our server provider, based in Switzerland, having quite literally disappeared! We lost the website and email addresses, so have to go through all the procedures from scratch. Nice. Anyhoo, we have someone on the case right now and hopefully it will be restored soon. It was, and hopefully will be again, www.touchstone-books.com
I shall try to remember to advise as and when its restored.

Sam: Gosh, thanks! Feel free to start a fan club. (Karl who...? :-)

"The Real Thing" and the "40 Years" books are both outstanding, I own both. Required reading for any serious Cobra enthusiast and a great addition to your automotive bookshelf.

Trevor you can send my promotion check to...........

I have the others also and find pearls every time I pick it up for a read or even just looking at the pictures.

I appreciate the input and the chance to rub shoulders with you Trevor...

I'm heading out at lunch today to pick up a copy of "Cobra: The first 40 years" at Barnes and Noble.

Interestingly enough, for the outstanding raves I've read on this site about the book and the (ahem) verbose nature of Club Cobra members (everyone has an opinion), n-o-b-o-d-y, not a single person has written a review on "Cobra: The First 40 Years" on barnesandnoble.com. What's up with that?

OK...a Review of "Cobra: The First 40 Years."

It's great, but a bit oversized for comfortable reading while in the throne room.

The end.

To be followed with the extended review by DD after he has had a chance
to read it. Fixed it.

I would probably be willing to meet Trevor some where between his home and mine to get my books signed. The Atlantic Ocean seems inconvenient... Say how about NJ at the SAAC convention next summer?

IntCobra - I was hoping you might have suggested Bermuda.....but SAAC's pretty good also. Let's see what's in the depleted coffers nearer the time.

Bernie - much more sensible for your to send me a ticket to Oz. They tell me you have sunshine over there! (and cold beer, if we're to believe the stupid ads we have to suffer) I'll bring my own pen.....

Jamo - getting very worried about you and your unorthodox toilet-training. It was designed to grace your coffee table, not to reside in the 'powder room'.

Mike - thanks but no check just yet - insufficient grovelling. Some useful adjectives might be 'superstar' or 'genuis'. Just a few guidelines there....

Hello Trevor --- SuperStar,

Your genius is only exceeded by your good looks and kindness to lesser beings(JAMO).

Can I now get additional copies with your personal quill attentions?

I have Trevors books and they grace the coffee table in my office.......they are great and every time I open them and cruise through I pick up new nuggets of information.

Jamo ----- You need to stand up and get out more.

Tony R.

I'm hoping Jamo's copy doesn't end up on the used market...

Trevors first Cobra book compares to his latest Cobra book as an early 260 Cobra is compared to an AC-built Shelby 427 S/C.

Each unique, each special, each informative, each "interesting".

Get 'em all and see the development of the cars, the author and the times. Early book perhaps has less imprints, important to a collector of fine lit.

This is no drill. Worth enjoying.
