Cobra Make, Engine: Owned CSX 3121 1969-1975. Went to the dark side and bought a 'Vette. May yet repent and be saved.

While there were a lot of years between the two, I went from CSX3121 (real Cobra) to a Porsche 930. Not being able to leave anything stock, I eventually tweaked the thing to over 500 HP (engine dyno) via K27 turbo, twin plug ignition, Gruppe B cams, huge intercooler, etc. By the time the madness was finished, the Porsche was probably as quick as the Cobra in a straight line, but I never got comfortable with the handling. I'm convinced that over most roads, I could get from point A to point B faster in the Cobra just because I trusted it. The Porsche always seemed ready to trailing throttle oversteer me into oblivion.

I understand the new Porsches have been improved quite a bit from the tail swapping standpoint, but, regardless, like Marcocsx3121 has experienced, properly set up original specification Cobras have spanked many a Porsche, as shown in these vintage shots (through a corner, no less): http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...=51842&cat=500

As an analogy to newer cars, a recent My Classic Car TV episode had a track comparison between an older race prepped L88 Vette (I believe a '69) against a new Z06. The Z06 had some modifications of its own and just barely beat the old Vette after 5 laps on the very tight track, with a top professional driver. Back in the day, top 427 Cobras were spanking those older Vettes when comparably prepared, so that says alot about the potential of the Cobra, when set up correctly.

As my dear departed Daddy used to tell me.......The difference between a Porsche and a porcupine is the prick is on the outside of the porcupine. I had 3 turbos over the years. He loved to poke fun but I knew he was proud that I was able to get the toys he couldn't raising us 4 kids.......I'm looking for a Cobra to water my redneck roots. Sorry Dad ain't around to offer insults of wisdom when the neighbors houses shake when I fire it up. Get the COBRA and keep your driver for grocery shopping. God Bless the US of A!!!!!!!

Sold my 911 & 951 to get the cobra. Never a minute of seller's remorse. They're two completely different animals. Will I get another Porsche? Probably, but I won't sell the cobra to get one.

I didn't actually go from a Porsche to a Cobra, but own one of each currently. Have an '86 911 Targa Carrera and the SPF. While each has its own merits and are fun to drive, if I had to give one up, the Porsche would be long gone before the Cobra.
