Clear fender spats?
Does anyone know of a source online to buy precut 3M Scotchcal film for the rear fender spat area? I am thinking of taking the leather spats off my car, but still need rock chip protection.
Thanks!

Sal, you do not need to purchase pre-cut spats because it will only take you about 15 minutes per side to do your own.
I used a regular piece of copy paper to make my templates for each side and then transferred those to 3M brand clear. Cut with scissors and then applied.
It was a very simple install using soapy water and alcohol. (The alcohol was put on the clear bra and not in me)
Check my gallery photos and see if you can see them. They work great!!

Finishline
I have the Finish Line ones and you can't see them. I have to show people where they are. And my car is Black!
They come pre-cut from Finish Line.
I have it up front too.
Good stuff!

Where did you purchase the 3M Scotchcal film? The cheapest price from Autubody Depot was $88.00 for an 11" x 75" roll.

I was at a recent car show with many dealers present selling their product lines and one had the pre-cut 3M clear to protect different areas of most new cars and I asked if he sold sheets of their product so I could cut my own. This arrogant ass said they didn’t because even the application of the pre-cut panels was only recommended to be installed by his professionally trained staff. He’s lucky he didn’t find my fist in his face.

Sal,
I had a local guy do the complete front & rear fenders for $400.00
Can barely see it. After watching a expert do it I am glad I did not attempt it on my own.
Absolutly the best money I have spent on the car period.

I intended to cut my own, as I've used Scotchcal before, but I can't find anyone in this new town that's even heard of the stuff!! I just figured if I had to mail order it, I'd just get it precut.

Cdnus,
After building my entire car my self including the paint applying a decal of 3M was not my concern just the guys attitude that his trained staff was the only ones who could do so.
Sal,
The url I posted was for a place in Tampa that sells it in small sheets and I’m sure there are more but as when I left Ohio it takes awhile to find out where you can get certain things as you did back in NY.

Many of the window tint places have this product, just find one that uses 3M products. THEY use it on the high dollar headlight assemblies.

Here's 3M's list of sellers:
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...WTB/Car-Truck/
I have the 3M 8mil on my spats and it has a slight orange peel texture to it. It is very translucent, but not optically clear. You can definitely see it on my black car from 10 ft.
But it has totally saved my paint job where applied. The front of the car and front & back of all fenders are nicked up from crappy roads and track time. When I get the paint touched up, I'm going to add much more of this film.
3M makes a Scotchgard film that's only 6mil, don't know anything about it. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...bePKD7VS0CHGgl Several paint guys have said you don't want to go thinner than 6mil for this film.
Llumar's film is optically clear, but not sure of the thickness. http://www.llumar.com/na-eng/Automotive/auto-paint.html Their website if screwed up, hard to navigate.
Sal, your car is white, so you could get away with the 8mil and you shouldn't see it at all.

Ironically you can buy this stuff at Wal-Mart. 1 box of the 3M is $12 or something like that and is more than enough to do both rear fenders. FYI. In the automotive section.
Cheers,

I visited a local shop that installs the 3M paint protection product and asked if they had any leftovers of the size that I needed!!
Total cost: Zero
Install time: 30 minutes
Paint Protection: Priceless

Sal,
I kinda like the leather spats, sorta Cowboy. Sorta Chaps-like. But now that I think of it, there are certain parts of town where one might think twice about wearing leather chaps !!
Go with the CLEAR!!
Just teasing, I like your car, leather chaps and all.
