I think there was thread a while back about someone in Australia building an AWD WRX powered Cobra. Check the shop talk archives.

OMG...that combination would be blinding quick in such a light car.
But your new user ID here would most likely be changed to the Anti-Christ.

Yes, Anti-Christ and banned.
To think of such a thing, you should be ashamed.
So, Ernie, am I to understand then it has been purchased and the person is working on it?

subaru drive train? Hmmmmm I say do it! Get the best of both worlds, modern technology, with classic cobra looks. Would be very cool to see, and would run like a banshee, plus have all the handling in the world. Anti-christ? maybe visionary? would be fun to see it work, go for it.

The rear quarters of the car have a strip welded in and also a replacement outer panel. Looks to be off a Cobra 427 narrow hip. Your looking at a completely new body here. Also, be aware that Aces have a different body arc than Cobras (because of the tall Bristol engines) and changing the arc is a major problemmo since it involves re-arcing the big tube inder the cowl. Cobra Windshield, top, etc. will not fit. Better to just look at the Vin plate and see what it starts with. BEX was Bristol export. AEX was ACE export. Try to dig up the original engine. or maybe even convert it over to a Ruddspeed Ace. (Easier to get engine parts). No small project here. Been there..done that. Rotsa Ruck

Really?
Well, if he is going to Subaru ( or whatever ) it, then there is no saving him.
61 ACE, What are you going to do with it?
There is a real possibility to make this into a sweet machine.

You know, if this car has a clear TITLE the possibilities become quite profound as to what the car could be used for. Especially in Calif. A no smog ever 'real' something or other.
Cars like this is why the SAAC registry is so important. The title, vin plate and a 'chunk of frame' could potentially be worth more than the car/chassi itself.

59? Heck thats even better as far as smog goes. Now be careful if you find any 'cannablis' in the car, I heard that stuff was for medicinal use only in Calif...

The leaf spring cars had either 'street' flares or modified (enlarged) flares. The enlarged flares were added either by AC or Shelby or an individual that either wanted to go racing or wanted a 'racey' look. They took on several different profiles. The cutback door cars received what AC referred to as "wide rear wings". No where do I find the term 'slabside' used to describe the stock street car.
For what it’s worth, unless someone can find historical reference to the term ‘slabside’, I’d suggest using the term street car instead.
I will now climb off the orange crate

Sorry but the term street car would not be accurate at all. There are a multitude of photos of "slabside" cars being raced competitively. Slabside is the only term that would differentiate those cars from the other 289's. Just because Shelby didn't use it in their original literature doesn't make use of the term incorrect.

If the owner can get 10K out of that, he should take it and run!

Bummer 61Ace, it's tough when you don't have the funds to move ahead on a deal in a timely manner. Add to that the fact that there is a certain risk as to the cost vs resale value and hesitation is understandable. Heck even I would have hesitated to put out $5,000 for the title alone. Might have been different if it was in my backyard, hard to say.
It's not surprising word would get around quick on a deal like this, and Lynn Park woud among the first to find out all right. Doesn't matter WHO it was that told him (wasn't me by the way) he WOULD have found out from SOME source pretty quick anyway.
If Lynn says the title is worth $10K, I wouldn't doubt him. But then again, finding a buyer who will actually pay that amount is another matter...
My guess it there are darn FEW of us here on Club Cobra that would have actually followed through on this deal in a timely manner, talk is cheap, putting up the money for real, well thats something else. Did anyone actually CONTACT 61Ace and offer any money or try to make a deal? I doubt it, (all though one guy did contact me, but never followed through). And theres the rub, 'never followed through', any takers now at $10K? Didn't think so...
