Default SAAC-33 - Dates have changed!

The word has come down from SAAC HQ that the currently published dates for the national convention next year have been changed.

SAAC-33 will be held August 15 - 17, 2008...instead of the July 4th weekend.

This may have been due to scheduling/opening of the new track, Thunderbolt Raceway in Millville, NJ, where it will be held.

Bad news for some is that this is the same weekend as the 2008 Monterey Historics.

Ron,

I hope to see you in NJ this August!
I am already putting together a Southern NH group to attend #33. Rains too much in July anyway! I prefer mid August as I plan to drive the CCX down and its drier then.

Already looking forward to the date.

Thanks for the update Ron. As we all know NJ is the capital of show and shine Cobras so that should leave plenty of track space for those of us who drive our PSB's.

The last time SAAC was local, "LRP" 25 Cobras doing open track, 300 in the show field.

REAL men....... oh never mind.

Been talking to "our crew" about this........they all want another road trip, and boy will it be a road trip......best I can figure, about 22 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn, that's far....

Wifey ain't too excited about it, but my birthday is Agust 16th, so, we'll see.......told her it would make a nice present.......

Maybe Kopec will let me race in the vintage race this time around????????

For those going, beware of them "Cranky Racers", they are a bad influence on good folks...

Allan,
First of all the thousands of East coast (NJ)show and shine guys out here need to bring their repliCobras to a larger audience. Just how many times can they park in the same spot, at the same time, in the same town, showing what they bought to the same group of lookers?
And second SAAC is headquartered in the East.
Third and one of the most puzzling reasons for having the convention at a race track in NJ is that most NJ guys don't track their Cobras or any cars for that matter.
Go figure.

Also, I think there are more SAAC members up and down the east coast.

I wish they would go back to Nashville, ONLY a 10 hour drive for me............

You're right, David...

Rick Kopec said that the majority of SAAC membership is within 500 miles of South Jersey.

He went on to say the last national convention held in the NE was at Lime Rock, 7 years ago...and that one set an all time attendance figure, with 10,000 people.

Not to worry. Some of us have replicas that do turn a wheel on a track every now and then.

Jim

Since I can't figure out how to resize pictures (and don't have time to go searching to figure out how) check out my gallery for "Mad Max", my 66 Mustang "R" (for replica).

Well the West Coast has warmer weather year round and multiple SAAC events year round.

The (north) east coast hasn't seen a SAAC convention in 7 years. It would make sense to focus the event where you have most of your members. But go figure...

The pretend racers (the "Real men") I suppose have no problem traveling wherever the SAAC event is anywhere in the country traveling thousands of miles if need be to show off their Real men, manly, he-man track skills to all the non real men show and shine types. After all the pretend racers are REAL men so location and distance to travel to show off their super human skills should make little difference. Wow! can wait to see them super open track heros at SAAC.

Us show and shine types are just grateful that we don't have to travel as far this year to show and shine and carry all that Detail cleaner, micro fiber towels, tire shine etc.. such a long distance. Whew! Thank you GOD!

Hey it's all a pretend world anyway.
Some of us pretend to race and others pretend that they have a real Cobra.
Although a few Club Cranky guys actually race and one just won the Northeast Championship for sports racers.
Our club is open to anybody who wants to hang with us but wer'e not up to the standards of some.

Ron;

Don't know the #'s, but SAAC membership has always been big in the NE......Kopec has moved the annual event around the country to try to accomodate all.......the most central location that made any sense was Nashville (also, one of the best facilities) and it had one of the worst turnouts for the event, I never figured out why???????

It's still a long ways off and I'm not sure I'll be there, but I'm hoping.......

Although I loved the racing aspect, it's the people I know and sometimes only see once a year at this event, and the people I meet at the event that keeps me coming back.....Lord knows, most of the time the event is not run very well and track slots get overbooked and parking lots are overcrowed,etc.,etc.,not to mention the expense of towing a car on a trailer 16 hours (VIR) one way and all the other related expenses to attend a SAAC convention........if my wife knew what we spent for the 7 days we were gone to VIR, I'd never be able to go to another SAAC convention unless it was in my home state (La.) which will never happen!!!!!!!!!!!

For the open trackers/racer crowd, it's the one time a year you get to get "on track" with million dollar cars and some of the best drivers in the country.........something to tell the grandkids about one day in my old age...........

David

Thumbs up SAAC at Thunderbolt Raceway

Dave,
Once Thunderbolt Raceway is up and running it will be our home track for us NJ guys. Nasa Northeast will be running three 3 day events per year when the place is finished, probably in 2009. For next year 2008 we will have one maybe two NASA events plus the SAAC convention. Most of the Club Cranky gang will be there to meet old friends and leave the open tracking to others.
We will be there but saving our tires and fuel for the NASA shows.

Hope you can make it.

RD and the Crankoids

Evan,
Excaliber=not even close
ERA= now your talking top shelf kit car
CSX 4000= close but no cigar (actually the only Cobra that can truly be called a replica)
CSX 3000= Now you talking REAL Cobra. you can even get your photo taken with the other guys at the convention (your finally in the club)

We all read Kopecs reason for letting the 4000 guys in.

Here's a thought... how about the racers enjoy the racing, the show-ers enjoy showing, and each group enjoys the attributes of the other.

I don't get all the bickering... we all have Cobras, and we all like Cobras. Why not show up to a Cobra event... and just like Cobras???
