Engine Exchange on CSX 7000 Series
AS some of you know I'm looking on purchasing Superformance or a Shelby CSX continuation series. I just found a CSX 7000 series that is is 2 years old. The issue is that the original engine had some major issue and they had to replace it with a 302 CI Ford Racing Performance Create Engine (the original engine was a rebuild 289). Do you think this should hurt the value of the car? The seller told me he has all documentation. The car has low mileage.

There's really no such thing as an "original engine" on a continuation car, as they come as rollers. And the 302 can visually be made to look just like an "authentic" 289 if that's the look you are after.

I would rather have a 7000 over a 4000 for a number of reasons, pm me if you like. The motor does not matter.

The 289 engine was installed when the car was still a roller chassis. That engine failed and was replaced by the Ford 302. Do you think that's an issue for the value of the car?

Since a 7000 frame varies greatly from a 2000 series car, the originality of the motor is immaterial. In fact, there are as many differances as similarities. Caliphers, rotors, radiator, fuel cells, ignitions, transmissions, the list can go on. It's a great car, but, its a "replica". If you like it and the price is right, buy it!

As a "genuine" Shelby Cobra just keep records of what you are doing for the registry. Regarding value, I doubt switching out the original engine will impact the value.

Just a point of clarification. A 'reasonable' engine won't impact the value. A big block like a 460, or even worse, a GM motor, would certainly impact value.
