What is it exactly you guys want? I'm not pulling the engine so thats not an option. Whats the issue with the big old "stock" headers & the big old "stock" dual feed double pumper?

Part #.

Intake manifold on the front runner. Starts with a C or D Like C8AE ****
It should also have the firing order. These part numbers are raised castings

Heads between the two inside exhaust ports near the spark plugs
One side C*** and near the other plug ****

C meaning the 60s and D meaning 70s second # meaning year C8** =1968
the next two letters will tell us what cars they were produced for.

That should do for starts.

Casting numbers; Intake - C6A2 there was also a second set of numbers in those and they are 9426-6, Heads - C8AE-H

Here is a picture of the truck that this engine is in also.

When it comes to FE's, we live and die by casting numbers.

Dr. Pepper anyone?

Ok, well then I hope those numbers that I supplied help because I'm planning on restoring this truck to its original glory and I want to know if it has the engine I'm hoping it has!

The pics from below don't show the cross bolted main caps, so it's neither a 427 sideoiler nor a 406.

i just bought a 390 block that has the bosses where the crss bolt holes can be drilled so even going by that can be tricky...not that i'm gonna drill it and ..ahem...pretend its a 427..

LOL that is not the worst of it. The truck was a deep red, but the passenger door was white on top and orange on the bottom half. Said "Customer Service" on it. It was from an old U-Haul Customer service truck. The dash was from the same truck. So really it was a 79 body, with a few 78 body parts thrown in. No tail gate, a custom made swing gate with spare tire holder, Gas door was gray, found on some random junk yard truck. No Grill, 2 huge off road light where the grill used to be. Top of the hood was right about 5'6" off the ground. I really wish I had a picture of it, but I don't. I had it when I lived in San Diego, and I actually won a radio contest with it. "Ugliest Truck in San Diego". Got free tickets to the Monster Truck Show. I just called it "The Beast"

Mine was exactly the same. Just the hose running down the side of the radiator, hanging down. As you can see from my descriptions, it wasn't exactly stock.

C8AE-H

1968 360/390/428cuin heads 2.02" intake 1.55" exhaust.
The intake looks like a 390 4V intake.
a 428 intake has larger runners with softer outside edges.

The date casting will be between the oil adapter and where the pan bolts up.
might start with an 8 if the block matches the heads.
something like 8A12.
Casting number is on the front paasenger side of block.
C8AE-A
C8AE-C
C8AE-E
Any of these three number will narrow it down to a 360 or 390

It was a blast. Some how I cracked the side of the carb, took me a while to figure out what was wrong, and then when I put a new carb on, it wouldn't run right. found a crack in the intake, put a new one on, and then about a week later, it just stopped. Engine seized. I think that when the carb was messed up, I somehow got fuel down the vacuum lines into the valve cover and drained into the crank case. When I checked the oil, it smelled like gas, and felt like water. I ended up selling the truck as it sat for $1,000. Who wanted a non running truck, but the front shocks cost that much new, so there were plenty of parts to tear off that made it a deal for someone.

It is bolted to the block on the driver side toward the front where the oil filter screws on.

FE detectives:

FYI:

Crossbolt blocks are easily duplicated. I know a gentelmen that has a 390 via Southern Automotive with cross bolt mains. It is an easy external check but never base a purchase off that detail. It might be prudent, if you are not a FE gear head to purchase FE's at 390 prices unless via a Gessford, FE Specialists, Shelby, etc a source that lives and dies by their products. It will not be easy on the pocketbook however it is peice of mind.

It only stands to reason when the cost of a true 427 SO can exceed five figures some 390, 428 FE's become high dollar SO's by builders that are in it for the short term $$$.
