Default Hood insulation

What, if anything, are you guys using for insulation on the underside of your hood. I'm concerned about protecting my soon-to-be new paint job. I've been driving in gel coat long enough. I'm thinking of adding a skin of aluminum with an air gap between the hood and aluminum. Hood and scoop rivets will hold in place.

Fiberglass resins will move around much more than urethane-based paint. If things are stable now, I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine is painted above and below the hood - 7 years now and both sides look great. You may be going through a lot of extra work for what?

My hood has 18 years of heat and the paint still looks great.

I have never seen a problem with any Cobra hood. Both sides of my hood are painted. 10 years later looks like the day it was painted.

- I like the extra work, LOL. Just trying to avoid damaging an expensive paint job & I was adding a new scoop so I thought I might as well make the rivits functional. But if I don't need anything, that gives me time for other cobra projects.

Don't worry - there will always be plenty of other Cobra projects!

You can always do this which gives the underside of the hood an aluminum look:

This is a unique process done by Metal-morphus in CT.
