I personally don't understand why the FIA or 289 body style isn't more popular. From what I've always heard is the 289 cars handle much better and have better road manners than the 427's. There was a mention of 427's are 4 to 1 of 289's, I think it's more like 33 to 1!! I believe ERA has made maybe 125or so? I don't know about Unique and Shelby's. I'd be willing to bet there are less than 500 or so ever made. I know when I had tried to sell mine, the interest was good but nothing like a 427 would have been I'm sure. There is definitely a different crowd that wants the FIA or 289. With all the new stroker combinations I'm surprised the 289 hasn't jumped up. I think both cars are awesome and have a big differences between the two. I'm not a big fan of the slab side's but they have their own place too. I have a friend that's building a Kirkham "LeMans" replica and it is just incredible! The detail, the fit and finish, the quality is perfect, just an amazing piece! For me, I needed a dash for my ERA, I got one from an orginal car and it fits perfectly. So the ERA might have modern frame and components but it's dead nuts right on!! I would love to have a Kirkham and no matter how "correct" it is, at the end of the day it's still a replica- not original. I know this is a heated debate but even the "new" Shelby's are not from the sixtes. I'm not saying they don't have a place high up there but if weren't for the Kirkham boy's where would we be? I personally like the narrow front end with the big rearend as on my FIA. I think the 427 is stout looking but too much steriods for me. Plus the 427 has really taken on alot of different body changes from all the manufactures. It will be interesting to see the new "factory five FIA"? It still is amazing to me though is how many people think it's a MG or something. Then I tell them it's a Cobra and they say oh, I thought they were all blue with white stripes!! I should have painted it Gold Metalflake! Great thread guy's! Thanks, Matt.

Allan A.
i'm with dlampe
p.s. i've seen your cars alan, nice job. did you build them or was it done by "sai"? by the way i must appologize for not understanding that the quote was meant as some kind of inside joke, i read it as something of a challenge for others to shoot for.........by the way i've always been around, saac (stood right beside 7034), historics, coranado, knotts, etc..........looks like the lunch bell rang and it's time to go back to class!

Matt, the reference of 427's being 4:1 compared to FIA's was in reference to ERA's build ratio. Superformance, FFR, Backdraft - who combined account for a large volume of the cars built in the past 10 years, don't offer an FIA so the "total industry ratio" has to be 50 to one. But I still think it's the coolest car going and to me it is THE cobra. Have fun with your "MG". Rickd

All these cars are treasures 427 or 289 however I too prefer the FIA look and details to 427 car. I actually prefer the very rare comp which is the slabside using flares.
Allen A, CSX7034 is one great looking car, I am sure it goes the same.
Comp:
A look that would require a talented hand found in Poland today or one from England in the 60's.

John,
Well on your way to one sweet build! Too bad SAI stopped the concept!
However KMS can do it, just a few more ponies though with a wait...........
Perfect concept in my opinion for Mr. Bruce!

Jeff, that's just a Comp small block car. No FIA attachment. And I agree, I love the look of a Comp small block car.

I'd rather have a "generec" S/C or comp car clone than a 3002 clone, as with the tiny windshield and all the racing stickers, to me its not that practical, not that a cobra is practical in the first place. Beautiful car though.

Hey.....what's wrong with racing stickers??
My FIA wouldn't be the same without 'em!

Both the 427 and 289 are beautiful.
Each has their own appeal. The question of which is nicer or better looking has no definitive answer.
As one would expect everyone likes what they have better. If they didn't like it better they would have gotten something else.
Thats my "expert" opinion for the other "experts" to comment on.

That may be the case if you assume unlimited funds. Perhaps some of us might prefer a nice aluminum bodied car, but might be saving up for something more reasonable in price...

The issue on the table wasn't aluminum or glass..it was 289 car or 427 car. Nothing to do with whether you have unlimited funds or not ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Dean Lampe sure built one beautiful Kirkham FIA hybrid. Maybe potential CSX 7000 Series buyers are buying Kirkham FIA hybrids instead?

Yes I have seen one up close and irregardless of what they look like, they kicked a lot of US butt in the air when handled by experienced pilots. That noted thru my experience in the aerospace industry building our own and thru an extensive historical study.
