Looking for tires......
Is there anyone using or that has used Hoosier Quick Time tires? They are reasonably priced and have the chain link tread pattern similar to the BillBoards. They have 295's and 245's and are DOT approved. Question is handling... will they handle similar to the GY's? They are primarily a drag bias and suitable for street use despite the usual Mfr disclaimer/warning against street use. Based on my research, they are of near identicle construction to the GY's. Please pipe in if you have any experience with them on all 4 corners.
Thanks...

some people do run drag tires on the street, and even run track events with them. However, while the Hoosier's do have a nice vintage looking tread, most people think the sidewalls, fine for a drag tire, and just too soft and flexible for proper steering feel and control on the street and on the track.
Plus, they may heat up too much for sustained high speed running.
Just an opinion i have heard from others.
all the best...

Thanks for the input Hal! Not sure what I am going to do at this point. Everyone seems to be pretty happy with the Goodyears...maybe that is the way to go despite the DOT rating of the Hoosiers.
Thanks again!

Hey 54... Thanks, the R1's are super tires, had them on my R-Model. Great race tire and handled super on the road. Too bad You can't get them in Cobra sizes. I have 15" 6 pins on my car...

Sorry I can't give you direct feedback on the Quick Times. But I will say that they where made for drag racing while the GY are not so I would imagine that the two sets, if the engineers did their job right, would back to back be very, very different. I do not recommend drag tires of any kind for road courses and the like. I know some folks run them and like them but I still can not recommend them.
Why the Quick Times? Want some thing sticky that can be driven in the rain? If so, the GY and maybe the Avons. But Avons are pricey. Are you concerned about price and not rain? You could try Hoosier TDs (DOT). Sure they are bias but they can be a ball to toss around and don't require a bunch of static camber. Forget any amount of moisture past morning dew though! They also have a DOT race radial but they are very short in 15". Just need track tires? Go to a vintage event and fill the trailer with free slicks? Want something in between but don't care about cost? Grooved slicks like an intermediate tire.
If a tire like the GY BB is what you are looking for, look no further.

I keep hearing that the "Avon's are pricey". I am about to turn over 5000 miles on the odo on a set of Avon's. This includes VERY spirited street miles, 20 or so mid 11. sec 1/4 mile runs, 4 days of tracking at VIR and 3 days of tracking at Run n' Gun (where I placed first in class - road course, big block street.) If you compare performance, price and MILEAGE of all the options, I think the Avons start looking like a pretty darn good deal.

Pricey for some, not for others. Compaired to BFG T/A, astronomical price versus mileage difference. Compaired to GY BB. No big deal. All in the eye of the beholder (Can't wait to get a set!).

I have given some thought and made a few calls about the Avons. The only draw back from what I understand is the height of the tire. I undersatand they are 3/4' to an inch taller than most of the 295's or 245's. Do you guys agree with this. 1061; might you have pics of the avons on your SPF? I would be inclined to go with them if they aren't too tall despite the price.
Thanks!

Here is a size chart: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/atta...9&d=1166416630
Remember, the original tires where really tall. I have heard nothing but good about the Avons, hope to have a set some day!

I have both the Goodyear Billboards and Avons.
I have been very pleased with the Avons (use them as my primary tire).

Dave -
Here's a photo of 1061 with Avons.
Sorry, I'm not very good at manipulating file sizes to hit the forum 39k limit.

Tires tires tires dont worry they are only flat on one side.
Im not shure we should compare a race tire /dot race tire to any street tire if we should stay in catagory as not to confuse the issue. street tires just are not the same nor will the pricing ,wear ,milage ,grip, our dot hoosiers completely changed our beast into a managable (even underfull throtle) car its like night and day difference. As a past SCCA and Oval champ,As well as Runngun im tellin ya street tires must be for waxers, and guys that dont want the most from ther car,or plain old just cant afford them, and thats fine if thats what they want, really im not putting them down for ther chioce. Anyway we ran alot of Goodyear's Yokohama's General's and Hoosier Td's and commanchies running different classes on oval track they were very grippy, though the transient response of the tire was very slow with a very soft sidewall ,but very forgiving coming to the limit. It didnt feel like you were on a knife edge.I dont like to think about how much time and money have we have spent in the pursuit of great handling cars with tires that provided the best grip for both street and track. We had three different brands of perfomance tires outlawed at I70 speedway in an effort to slow our car down all our resrch at the time was wasted by spitefull protest.oh well pm me anytime for tire help allways glad to see our group make an informed choice on tires.WB3

Bill,
Could you give us the exact specifics on the DOT Hoosiers? I was looking at the Hoosier Pro-Street radials (among many others in the Summit catalog), but would like to know if you were talking about the same beast or a different variety of Hoosiers.
Tanks,

Your wheels look great. Are they original Mags ? Tires look great too. Hope they were free ! If you did not know, they have stacks and stacks of free tires after every vintage race that are perfectly usable but are beyond optimum for racing.
