Default If you could change the colors of your car...

Hello All

Because of my mishap a couple of months back, I will now have the chance to change the colors of my car..... being paid for by the other guys insurance company!

Originaly the car was Titanium with a med-blue stripe. My interior is gray, and that is staying.

I am, looking for photos of different combos of silver (dark silver and bright silvers) I am not sure if there is a difference between a metalic gray and a dark silver. I am think of the the color of the "Eleanor" Mustang from gone in 60 seconds, with maybe a lighter silver stripe? But I am really undecided.

It seems harder to choose colors the second time!

Please attach photos and paint code numbers....I am open to other colors as well

Thanks to those who send photos

John

I absolutely LOVE this color. Nuclear Sunset Orange. This Factory Five car was done for an owner in Washington State, I believe. I think the color is an Indian motorcycle color. Was painted by Ken Pike (Street Rod Painter). Were it mine, I probably would've gone with a darker silver stripe... more of a charcoal & closer to the argent silver wheel color. It's not an original, period-correct color to be sure, but the owner of this car made a fantastic choice, in my opinion... very unique, and absolutely EXPLODES in the sun.

Default chrome paint

There is a chrome paint out that looks like a polished Kirkam. just to let you know you.You could at least do the stripes with it, and the body in a silver.
The company is Alsa they have many cool paints my friend R&D's for the company. some awsome effects.

This has always been a favorite and may go well with your interior.

Black with titanium stripes. Check my Gallery for photos. It would go with the gray interior too.
Black's hard to keep clean, but NOTHING looks as good when it is. Would do another one just like it in a heartbeat.
Don't know the paint codes, but could get them if you're interested.

John,

I am partial to straight titanium, no stripes. I think it has a classic look. I get compliments everywhere I go with mine.

John, how about a reverse of your colors? A nice blue body with silver stripes, would still carry the classic 427 look, but with a nice subtle departure from Blue/White. I think it would look very nice, especially with a thin silver pinstripe on the outside of the stripes.

Thanks all....keep em coming.

That nuclear sunset orange.....really does "POP"
That might be too much for me, but definately an eye catcher!!

I to like black, but my driveway is 1/4 mile long and gravel so it will always be dusty with a film on it.

I looked at the Also web site, lots of neat things. The chrome paint is so brilliant that it does look like polished metal. Has anyone ever used their products?

There are certain things in life that are just unshakable facts. In the car world, they include:
Ferrari's are red. The rest are mistakes.
Jaguars are British Racing Green.
Mercedes are silver.
Cobras are blue with white stripes. It's just the way it is, and the way it should be.

If I could do it all over, mine would be Black no stripes.

Currently Royal Blue with White stripes.

Stay with the Titanium. But this time, do black stripes.

Chris,

I agree with the black idea.......

Someone---I forget who----said the original 427s were one of three colors: black, red and white. I have been to Mike McKluskey's in LA and he has a large collection of ORIGINAL 427s. There was one in an absolutely eye-destroying red, but he said that it was not original.

I have JAMO's old Butler and have had it in brilliant red for three years. Since I decided to pump up the volume a tad on the 351C---I had the opportunity to work on some of the body's imperfections at the same time. Since there is another black Butler in my neighborhood (in rural Cape Cod!)----that I felt looked terrific, I decided to go with black and no stripes. My friend has black pipes, black roll-bar and Ron Butler's inserts (which make Centerlines look like Halibrands). The net reult is a very subdued car which is still very much a cobra.

I figure that basic black is the best for me. With chromed pipes, roll bar, etc., it should stand out well enuff and not attract quite so much (ahem) "official attention as the red.

On another thread, I stated I was looking for some BBS-type "snowflake" wheels with gold center-sections. This might be the greatest asset for the entire black-and-chrome assemblage. I already have some rims which look pretty much like what I want (Enkeis). In any case, I should be back on the road with everything done by Spring). I'll post the final product.

Well, they'd be very wrong then. Here are all the colors you could get on a 427 car. Black is NOT an original 427 color (the chip that looks black is actually dark blue). Photo courtesy of Jim Maxwell...

Thumbs up Basic Black!

It's hard to beat 'Basic Black'!

jdog
P.S. Black, may not have been an AC color, but sure was a Shelby color. Check the registry Sal, there were quite a few 427 cars (&289 cars) delivered in Black. I saw one myself in 1967-68 on a Ford dealership showroom. I know it was black for sure!

Not sure exactly when this photo was taken, but it may provide some idea about original colors..

Yeah, I could be wrong on that. I DO recall someone saying black was not an original color, but then I thought I recalled seeing black cars in the registry. Then I found that color chip pic, and also the reverse of it that has the colors printed on the back, and no black. But you're right, SAI painted comp and S/C cars in America, not at AC.

I'm sure Ron will know.
