Default Orlando Mustang/Florida SAAC/Historic Sportscar Racing Event

Spent the day at Daytona Speedway, having a blast watching historic racing and hanging out with the Florida SAAC guys. The owner of Orlando Mustang (restoration specialists) is also the Florida SAAC president, and was able to secure us a section of the pits to hang out it. This event is NOT open to the public, so it was a nice treat for the day.

Stay tuned as I post some pics right now.... I will end the posts with some video footage....

First up, some general shots of the pit area. We had a nice diversity of cars there, from Cobras, to GT-40s, to Shelby Mustangs, to Panteras and more....

What good would this be without some Cobras, right? Well, no original big block cars, but CSX 2204 and 2574 showed up...

2204:

And 2574:

And lastly, the highlight of the day, for me at least .

When I pulled CSX 4241 in, Peter Kluthe from Legendary Motor Cars (Dream Car Garage) came over to check out my car. He thought it was an original and I think he was interested in buying it! Needless to say, he was very impressed with how I've done the car, and that was a great compliment to me....

More on Peter... he was a SUPER nice guy. Not only that, but one HELL of a driver! He was there with the LMC Corvette racers (bad ass C3 cars) and he was one of the drivers. He totally destroyed the entire field he was racing against.

Here's a video I took of the Class 5 cars. This is the entire field through one of the tight turns, on the frst lap....

Now here's a video of the same fields of cars, only two laps later! You can see just how fast some of these cars are compared to others. Peter's Vette was SO fast, if you watch the entire video, you see him already lapping the last car! By the end of the race, I think he'd lapped the field almost three times.

Hey Sal......your car looks great!

I noticed you've got one of the last ones with the Shelby American Vin plates as well. Like the whole entire color scheme. I can see how Peter made the mistake, as it looks like a restored original.

Sal,
All those cars plus 5,000 more will be back at the speedway in a couple of weeks for the Turkey Rod Run but hope to meet you first at the annual Reptile Roundup of the Deep South Cobra Club with your Cobra so we can check it out.

Sal,

Thanks for the pics and video!
It helps us in the colder areas keep going as winter bites.
I hope you drove your car? As it is not a trailer queen...............

Sal, I was there yesterday and your car is indeed very nice. Did you have the leather spats made or did they come with the car? I need to have some made for mine. My car was the black FFR with decals and CCW wheels.

Spats, mine and I think Sal's, are HRE vinyl or for those vintage guys Naugahyde. Leather shrinks and is less heat stable.

Bill, thanks for the compliments.

Dan, I would LOVE to come to the Roundup and have some fun on the track with my car, but I just don't think I can afford it right now, since we just opened the shop and all .

j351, your car looked great, I was admiring it a lot. The spats were made by Billy at HRE Motorcars on Long Island.
