I really should have gotten a ticket today...
Dodged a bullet, no doubt.
Got on it hard coming up a hill. Then at the next stop sign, got on it hard again thru 1st and half of 2nd... ...came over the crest of that hill right after the stop sign and there were two patrol cars on the opposite side of the divider with their lights on and giving someone a ticket.
My immediate thoughts were "Dust....you are DUST! They heard you thundering up the hill...they heard you 200 yards away after the stop sign...this is not a good situation AT ALL, Dean!" I just lifted and kept looking forward like they were'nt even there. Then I purposely wound up 1st gear ( slowly I might add) at the next stop sign just so the sound wasn't much different than what they heard when I was coming toward them previously. I figured maybe I get out of this one for just having a loud exhaust?!?
It must have worked. I was expecting the second patrol car to high tail it towards me but I got a few hundred yards further down the street and didn't see anything in my rear view mirror. I was less than 1/4 mile from my turn into my neighborhood at that point, so I immediately picked up the pace, drove swiftly into my neighborhood, drove up on the ramps and had the garage door closed before I had the ignition key turned off!
The look on my neighbors' faces was priceless as I came thundering around the corner, up my driveway, up the ramps and closed the door as if all one, big motion.
I guess what was in my favor was it was all sound, no visual and they weren't inside their squad cars. Otherwise, instant-on radar may have tagged me at one point. The only other "save" may have been that one of those two officers was the same "car guy" that pulled me over about a year ago? Since he knows me and the car, perhaps he was just enjoying the sweet sound of the sidepipes?
Dang...I was just plain lucky; no other way to describe it. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, I guess.

Dean,
We've all been there... Glad you didn't have to burn a "traffic school coupon" today! BTW, was hoping to see your new toy at C&C today. I'm going up to VCR Supercar Sunday tomorrow am. Just a nice leisurely cruise up the 405.

You were lucky they were busy writing someone up. Your slow windup in
first was a good move because I'm guessing they might have then been
thinking you were more bark than bite. I don't think they could write you
up unless they clocked you on radar but had they been sitting and waiting
they probably would have had you in their sights. Glad it was your lucky day.

Kid had early ballgame...I was thinking about it though!
Cops were crawling AGAIN all over my neighborhood today (in pairs). I wasn't up for getting hassled, so I just kept BOTH in the garage today and did some brake/clutch fluid swaps on the new beast.

Saturday here in Ct it was around 38-40 degree's , just warm enough for a ride around the block. Left lot's of rubber in first and second gear from my neightbor hood stop sign. Went to the next stop sign and turned around to see a cruisier coming the other way. Luckly he was far enough behind not to have seen me get into it. BUT he must have noticed the VERY fresh black streaks on the road.
My lucky day!

Better invite the neighbors over for some fat juicy steaks. A little insurance one of them won't point out your downed garage door.

My other alibi was going to be "Now, Officer, there are THREE red Cobras residing within the city limits. Are you absolutely certain that the one you 'heard' was mine? 'Cause I'd love to hear how the Judge is going to interpret this 'visual' that you're trying to write-up."

Didn't have time to get 'home', pulled into a friends house, shut her down, and ran inside to hide! Looked out the curtains and sure enough, the patrol car eases by in the street looking at the car and contemplating a game plan,,, then he drove off.
WHEW, that was close!

What's a "neighborhood"?
You mean you can't go outside and shoot guns off the deck?

Lit them up, if you got them
A couple of years ago we were invited to an open house event for a high dollar neighborhood. I gave a guy a ride and had to spin the tires a little, you know, to show out for him. They had four city police offices and three cruisers "rented" for the event. Well, one was sitting in his cruiser with the window down three blocks away when I lit them up in first gear. He "found" me and boy was he pissed. Chewed my butt, ran a check on me, chewed my butt and let me go. Then he when back to our tent and told my buddies what happen. I still get ribbed about it.
