AACA & SGCV Display Class
AACA & SGCV Display Class
For 2008, the Antique Automobile Club of America has introduced a new class referred to as SGCV: Second Generation Collector Vehicles. An abbreviated summary of the article which appeared in the the November/December edition of the AACA publication Antique Automobiles:
This display class is for factory assembled manufactured vehicles that replicate the look and style of a previous make and model. Vehicles must be 25 years old or older to qualify. These vehicles have a newer more modern driveline and chassis than the original vehicle on which the replication is based. The body may have fiberglass components and the interior may have contemporary accessories. Owners must provide documented evidence that the car was factory assembled, i.e. manufacturer's certificate of origin, build sheet, or production order, with the vehicle's serial number and production date, along with a photocopy of the vehicle's registration or title.
Factory contact information, names and phone numbers should be included if available. All applications with pertinent documentation must be sent to the AACA Vice President of Class Judging. Vehicle acceptance is on a case by case basis and at the sole discretion of the AACA Vice President of Class Judging. Meet registrations will not be accepted for these vehicles until the AACA Vice President of Class Judging has reviewed all the documentation and approved it for entry.
Factory built vehicles in this class may include, but are not necessarily limited to Glenn-Pay manufactured Auburns, Avanti II, Clenet, Shay built Model A's and Zimmer.
As a starting point for further clarification to be used by all owners and Manufacturers in addition to Shelby American on the SGCA class, I forwarded to the AACA Vice President of Class Judging pages 46 to 50 from the Shelby magazine. " Shelby Automobiles Still Builds Cobras Today ". The article provided a convenient method of documentation, as a starting point , since the CSX numbering system is explained as well as a picture of the Shelby American vin tag indicating Manufactured By. I will post the response.
There was a notation that " kit car " vehicles are not accepted by the AACA. Not sure how this applies if the vehicle is manufactured rather than home or built by a shop.
Should anyone else or a Manufacturer desire clarification, the AACA Vice President of Class Judging, phone number and e-mail address was not listed.
