Does ANYONE have white ceramic coated headers / sidepipes??
I'm going nuts trying to find someone who knows where I can get pipes ceramic coated in white. I know Swain does it up in Rochester NY, but the finished product is rough like coarse sandpaper, not something I'm not really crazy about. jetHot doesn't do white. I can't tell you how many places I've called, and the all say some places do it, but not them. Has ANYONE actually had white ceramic coating done, and where?

I never could find anyone that did white ceramic coating other than Swain. I finally gave up and used a VHT type product by Dupli-Color. Like you I called a ton of places it was frustrating.

I've been using the white VHT on my sidepipes for several years. I get really tired of having to recoat them one or twice per summer.
At last year's London Cobra Show I spoke with a company called Aesthetic Finishers whose representative said that they could powder coat them in white for $450 (although the price could have gone up...) I elected not to have mine done (again), but they had an example there at the show and it looked pretty good.
You might see if this would help. Aesthetic Finishers in Piqua, OH (937) 778-8777

The Swain process and material is quite a bit different than "normal" ceramic coating like Jet-Hot and the like. If you are looking for corrosion resistence and good looks then the standard type coating is for you. If you are looking for performance improvements, heat reduction under the hood and corrosion resistence, then the Swain process is a better choice. The cosmetic aspects of the Swain product is a matter of taste IMHO.

I can't be the only guy wanting white pipes and not having to mask and paint them twice a year! I'm doing it for appearance sake. The Swain process actually looks almost like white cement, it's not real attractive, and I'm not sure how powder coating will hold up under the heat of the exhaust system.
I know there are tons of you guys out there with white pipes. Do ANY of you have ceramic coating on them. are are they all just painted?

Some Powder Coating is good up to the 1200 to 1600 degree range.
Do a Google search on high temp powder coating and make a few calls.

I have been speaking with Kirkham regarding a car. I had asked about white side pipes and was told they had the ability to get it done. You may want to try them or perhaps Finish Line.

You might want to email cobraviper99. The few times I've seen his car his white pipes look incredible. I don't remember if they are ceramic or not, but he has tried a few places and finally settled on having his pipes coated at one particular shop.

Air-Born Coatings did the white powder coating on my headers and side pipes. I was warned that it would not be as durable as the black or silver coatings. It turned yellowish when I got caught in the rain. Since then, I have been repainting them every couple of years with white VHT.

It isn't that big of a deal to paint them on occasion, VHT. I simply mask off by taping newspaper around the door and edges and 'touch up' as required.

An explanation of Swain's Ceramic Coating. The shade is more like pearl white rather than ceiling white. Aside from the appearance, rough finish is due to the ceramic material, the coating is durable. Available only in white, I sprayed mine black with VHT.

You may wish to check with the guys over on the Backdraft forum either here or on the actual Backdraft website. I have seen several of their cars with white sidepipes. It's a satin finish with a nice sheen to it. The cars were new so I'm not sure how it holds up - or even whether they have it done locally in FL after the car arrives from South Africa.
I am going to paint mine white with VHT because I've already paid to have them ceramic coated gray. And the VHT is cheap, looks good, and I can touch it up myself.

Duplicolor makes a ceramic in white that worked great on the Hi tech. I took them to the ceramic coating place and had them blasted and the headers ceramc coated black. (I wouldn't recommend white headers) After using two rattle cans on the side pipes I took them back to the coater and he baked them for me free. They turned a slightly yellow shade of white so I dusted them again and they still looked good after 1600 miles when I sold the car.

Someone else asked about white ceramic coating for side exhausts recently. Jay B. recently saw my car and knows the finish on the pipes is striking. Aesthetic Finishers in Piqua, Ohio did them after the finish that had been originally done by Airborne didn't hold up. I used to have to sand and repaint them with VHT just about every time I drove the car. Now, the chips are infrequent, there's very slight discoloration when the pipes are hot but the white comes back when they cool and a very quick hit with the VHT aerosol is necessary only now and then where the pipes exit the body. Here's the link to Aesthetic Finishers

The white pipes look great, I think, but when I get caught in the rain, mine turn to a muddy brown color with gray streaks. I seem to find a rainstorm nearly every year on the way to or the way home from London. Most of the discoloration washes off with mild cleaner, however.

This may sound goofy but when my pipes get raunched out from road slop or anything else that hits them, I just use #400 sandpaper to scuff it off. Just can't sand it too vigorously or I'll go through to the metal. A quick shot of VHT after I get the crud off and they look as good as new.

Swain, no question about it. It may be a rough suface, but the coating holds up forever. It's very easy to clean and nothing sticks to it. I never had to worry what I use to clean the surface either. It returns to bright white after cleaning and I do not need to re-paint or sand. Just My .02
