Looks like a combination of an Aston Martin and a Supra. Not fan of Nissans but it's hard to argue with the performance for the price. 11.6 quarters off the shelf for 70k. Not to shabby.

Launch control is for people who don't know how to drive. Nice car I just don't want all the electronics. I wonder how many launches it will take before the Diff or tranny cries foul.

It's actually a Nissan "Skyline" which has pretty much been a legend within the 'tuner' and 'drifter' community for many years. There are a couple of them in Hawaii, and I gotta tell ya, when I see one they get my respect. They have always been absolute cutting edge in performance but this now one really up's the anti. 4 wheel drive AND 4 wheel steering as well. Twin turbo V6, not sure of the horse power but no doubt 500 +. The early Skylines ran a pretty awesome straight 6, I don't know much about this new V6 motor.

Skyline, quietly kicking a$$ since the 70's when it was introduced as a fast 'grocery getter' and moderate sedan (wolf in sheeps clothing).

I agree.

It's kind of like my wife's Jeep SRT8. It's quick, but all you have to do is stab the throttle and point it in the right direction. Everything else is taken care of.

Kind of boring in my opinion.

Unfortunately, that includes about 99% of the drivers out there, even though most think they are somehow related to Mario Andretti. How many have actually graduated from a performance driving school?
I recently read that the vast majority of cars that had traction control/active handling that were involved in a 1 car crash, had it turned off.

I think they are dropping the Skyline name and just calling GT-R.

You know, it is interesting about the fear of too many electronic devices in cars. Most provide increased comfort, control and in the case of this new Nissan, much improved performance. Hopefully they never fail, because diagnosing the problem is often near impossible. But, my experience with Japanese cars is that they just don't break! Better engineering, better quality parts, I am not sure what they do differently? I contrast my wife's Infiiniti with loads of electronics (absolutely no problems after many miles) to her previous BMW which had shall we say "electronic issues". What is it about Japanese stuff? Why can't other manufacturers duplicate their reliabliity? I just don't get it!

Hexnut72, good point and I think rightfully so. The new car certainly has it's roots in the Skyline, but it's so 'over the top' and different enough it deserves a modified name.

When I was working for Ford and Chrysler dealerships those 'older' Lincolns and big Chryslers were an absolute nightmare of electrical problems as age caught up with them, and it didn't take that long!

Something's fishy with the stats. The power to weight ratio just ain't there.

It's a real porker @ around 4K lbs and t's only rated @ 470 hp too. Either Nissan sent a wicked up "ringer" for testing and press debut or they're severely under rated out of the box. Being turbo'd it'll be simple to crank up the boost and get even more stupid fast. Time will tell where they place in the pecking order. I'll look forward to a "casual" meeting with one in the Z.. (on the track, of course!)

That is what Traction Control can do for you. When all you have to do is rev it up to 4 grand and let off the brake your 0-60 and quarter mile times are going to be pretty impressive.

Maybe the cars in japan do not have catalitic converters, and do not need to be tuned for emissions ??? I dunno.

Also, almost all of the reason for the good numbers is because of the amazing launch capability. AWD with an automatic is the best combo out there for an amazing launch. I'll be they are not so good from a roll. So only race them from a roll and you got it made.

Is that 470 WHEEL horse power or flywheel horse power? I would assume the power loss due to four wheel drive and auto trans would be significant from flywheel to tires. Which would mean some serious flywheel h.p.

Does anyone know how you would calculate the parasitic loss for an awd vehicle?

Flywheel.

The GT-R numbers are fishy, and the power/weight ratio doesn't support them. However, there have been multiple bone stock Z06s in the 10s, with very, very good drivers. The Z06 is difficult to launch properly, which is why the magazine times are much higher than they are with very experienced drivers.

That's flywheel horse power, not wheel. AWD helps for 60ft times and is a power consuming hinderance pretty much after that, 1/4 mile wise. I don't remember what the trap speed was. That's usually and indicator of ram horse power. The stock to intake'n tune Z06s are running between 125 to 130 trap speeds.

Traction control on typically makes things slower, not faster. Maybe AWD's the exception??
