Default Turn signal switch wiring question

Hi folks-

Wiring a new Unique Motorcars 289 FIA car, and I'm having a hard time getting my brake lights to work.

Here's my setup: I'm using the turn signal stalk from the Unique pallet kit, but am wiring in a Ron Francis harness (there were a few things I wanted to do differently, so I went custom.) I have everything wired up and working except for the brake lights, and I'm trying to figure out where the "cold" side of the switch goes. I have a +12v hot lead going from my fuse panel down to the switch, and I have a wire coming from the cold side of the switch back, ready to be terminated "somewhere"

I suspect, since there's only one bulb per side in the rear, that the brake lights are on the bright filament in those bulbs just like the turn signal. If I splice the wire from the brake switch into the turn signal wires the brake lights will cancel out the turn signal, and I won't signal as long as the brake lights are on.

From what I understand, many turn signal switches have a provision for this, whereby when the turn signal switch is activated, it breaks the circuit to the brake light, only providing current from the flasher to the tail light, to ground.

So I'm wondering if there's a provision in the turn signal switch shipped with the kit that opens the brake light circuit when the turn signal is activated, breaking the brake light circuit so that the turn signal will flash when the brakes are applied.

I've tried connecting the cold side of the switch to the turn signal feed wire on the column, but I get nothing, even when the ignition is turned on.

Can anyone fill me in on how this "usually" works, and if the turn signal switch isn't likely to have that provision, is there another way of achieving this?

Thanks!
Chris

I'm squared away, it's the old "powered trailer light adapter" trick.

All the best,
Chris
