Which CSX Number?
If you were going to replicate a specific CSX car which one would it be and why?
|
I would choose a 427 Competition S/C car similar to this picture which is "like" CSX3016:
http://www.primequip.net/images/65%2...sx3016ds_3.jpg Reasons: 1. White side pipes 2. Black roll bar and quick jacks 3. "Traditional" colors 4. Pin drive rims 5. 15" tires Under the hood a Ford small block, likely Mass Flo induction, (EFI). Trans: 5 speed w overdrive, T5 Rear: IRS 3.27 or 3.31 ratio Brakes: Wilwood Frame: 4" round tube |
Rear end ratio is to high for the typical 5 speed. .6 over drive will bog the 'tiny block'. Having a big block means never having to downshift. :D

So, Excaliper,
What CSX car number would you replicate? Larry |

CSX 3155 It just looks so nasty! :3DSMILE: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Cobra3155.jpg

I tried to duplicate CSX 3111, I think it's gorgeous and exactly what I had in mind when I decided to build a cobra replica.

If I were to replicate on of the CSX cars.... I wouldn't , but if I were.... CSX3042.

I don't know...
My small block NEVER wheezed. As for the CSX I don't know, there so many that are great cars. It would depend on if you wanted a specific history or a given car. I would think. I did like the twin paxton that Bill Cosby had. I do not know the CSX # though. |

Cosby's CSX was No. 3303. :) |
I couldn't have said it any better.............

Gurney/Grant Targa Floria Cobra roadster
I don't have the number right here handy...I saw them in Italy in the 60's.. there were two cobras both light (portofino ?) blue...Phil Hill' had a yellow nose bar and Gurney's had a red one...Jesus, those cars were something, those big American V8 's (289's)would just shake the ground...the European's just went nuts over the sound...Dan was damn near a foot taller than most of them and looked over the top of the windshield...Grant drove like a man possessed...I though then that if I ever had a Cobra, it would look like that.. and so this month I will pick up a Superformance in those colors...going to be a Walter Mitty Kick in the butt !!!

I would emulate Dick Smiths red CSX (complete with side oiler and dry sump). That is if the money was readily available. I'd also run 'meat balls', #198.
Another question for the car would be, "What period of TIME would you emulate?" The cars came in different colors and different styles through out their life, you got pick a time frame. CSX3035 was car number 7 and number 11 at some point, and was a two tone paint job. CSX3035 today http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ith_2005sm.jpg CSX3035 of yester year http://images19.fotki.com/v327/photo...jpg?1152153090 |
Any of these cars would be a great tribute to the history whether street or comp. I would be torn between two of my favorites however the first would be tough to compete with:
CSX3020 http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...CSX3020-13.JPG Why? Originally equipped 427 dry sump car with all the goodies, not S/C it's one of the few and proud true comp series, HD A-arms, all race equipment coolers and ducts, seat fits snug to my ass, sounds CRAZY mean, history with gentleman Tom Payne, and it match's my gorgeous red headed wife. A very close second would be: CSX2345 http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...sx2345amed.jpg Why? Unrestored and asymetrical to the tee, paint is bad, cracks, roll bar forward brace removed (history), suttle changes like steering wheel, dents, no doubt an original, and what a history.........to see this drift in corners will always be in my memory. Real DragonSnake
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...agonSnake1.jpg My Cobra, I’m working on the hard top now and will paint it black I don’t really know the CSX number of the real Dragon Snake above http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IM0048071.jpg |
Unsurprisingly, I would replicate CSX2131,
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...70docu0001.jpg (...well, I already did, pity it`s only 1/12th scale!!!) ...http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../Image0018.jpg And just to make life easier, Hawk Cars in the UK actually offer a limited edition version of it!!! http://www.hawkcars.co.uk/hawk289/comp/h39ph.jpg As a close second,(If I had to have a BB!!!) I think it would be the Gumball Rally Cobra, CSX3255 (or also 3243...) http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...mballCobra.jpg "GUMBALL!!!!!!!" |

Small block in a Big Block car (427 body style). Your right, it's a JOKE!
As you point out the 'history' as it concerns the FIA series were small block cars. |
