Autoweek is reporting the same information. 63 is way too young!

Too bad...The man was an ICON. He will live on in the form of the unique and aweinspireing cars he created. On a different note maybe we all will have an easier time of obtaining SB100 numbers?

Sorry to hear that. I had a love/hate feel for Boyd. He designed some beautiful stuff. I have had his wheels on my '67 Mustang for a long time... they are not round but they always looked fantastic on the car.

Enjoyed his TV show and also that for the most part he stayed out of court and lawsuits and basically just kept doing what he always did. He actually was a mentor to many younger builders/designers like Foose etc. And he went to a lot of car shows and really was just part of the whole culture.

He was a painter to start... 63 is young. I wonder if exposure to the chemicals caught up with him.

RIP Boyd Coddington.

He was a machinist to start...worked for Disney making one off odd bits to keeps all the rides and attractions going. Started making one off odd car parts in his spare time (on Disney equip.) and went on from there. He spoke about this on one of the profile shows on Speed. I hope he and Foose had a chance to reconcile before he died. RIP.

Liked watching his show. His staff seemed quite talented. I wasn't a big fan of his personality (judged by the show, for what that's worth). We all have to go sometime, but 63 is a bit young to be passing on. Rest in peace.

Boyd is definately an icon in the hot rod world. He will be missed. Liked the show but not the constant bickering between the workers and it seamed everything was done with a short deadline which turned into a rush job for everyone. I think this had to do more with the producers of the show trying to turn it into a soap opera rather than showing a bunch of guys enjoying building hot rods. The same goes with Orange County Choppers. It would be a much better show with out all the arguing betwen the old man and the son.
63 is too young, hell I turn 60 in a couple of weeks!

Default Boyd Coddington

Boyd Coddington and his television shows was the stimulus that made me build my Cobra. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed. However, the cars he created will last and remind people who see them that Boyd Coddington built that car.

God bless his family.

His on-the-air persona sort of turned me off on all things Boyd related (including some of the OMG-I-can't-believe-they-are-that-stupid hatchet work his fabricators did to some of those mega buck one-off cars). But the guy could design a righteous looking hot rod and he had skills. RIP, Mr. Coddington.

-Dean

P.S. Looking at his ex, it's a reminder that we all make mistakes in life.

I agree,

Of course a lot of the "drama" is there to make the show interesting to people who don't give a flying fig about cars, but I saw them polish several turds on the show. One with a 57 Chevy they were rushing for the dealer owner comes to mind, they showed them bolting new chrome to a rusty bracket and that to a nasty looking underbody. why people spend big money with disfunctional people (Boyd, OCC, Hennessy, etc.) is beyond me other than the dick-waving ego of having your car done by the guy on TV?
