Yeah, come on, give the guy credit for ingenuity and forethought. After all, the REAL 427 Cobra prototypes arrived in CA in December of '64. Just think how smart the builder of this car was. Man, he had to think fast and act even quicker! We should be congratulating him for his amazing accomplishment. Surely the comments in his ad are 100% correct, right?

The cross bar that really neat front sway bar is attached to looks like a B&B as does the radiator placement. The hood hold downs are different though..........

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but weren't all 1964's slab sides? I didn't think the 427 SC came along until very late in 1965.

64's were 289 slab sides. '65 was the first year for the 427. Some are listed as 1967 models, but I THINK those were hold overs from 1966 when production ceased? Model year was changed to make them 'new'.

I received this response from the seller of the "1964" replica.

Clearly the car will continue to be marketed as a genuine 1964 replica, one of five built in the 'mid 60's'. I think the current owner is sincere in that he really believes this is a built in 1964 replica. Any one care to guess what manufacturer made it? I believe it is a modern day replica.

I think it would be hard for him to fool to many people and if anyone in this state bought it, they would have to go through the SB-1578 process, which is to legally change the title to a SPCN and uses the SB-100 numbers. That would be the biggest hurdle here and I am sure that Morgenster and his group are aware of it. If it was registered here in 1964, then it is just one of many that was registered under a false title because this dumb state didn't have any way to register them before SB-100.

And why is the car still listed as it is??? Gives Cobra Country a bad name adds adds the "sleaze" factor to the Cobra re-sale market.

A few identification clues there in the photos on this car to help one see what it could be or what it's not:

- Engine compartment view (what's there, what's not)
- 9" rear end
- Visible box frame rail behind/under sidepipe
- Wide track / mild offset wheels, but still sticking out
- Marker lights are interesting
- Forward tilting rollbar
- Shape looks kind of familiar

- Pictures of the underside of the chassis, suspension, and cockpit would be helpful.


One easy question would be "what's the VIN#" and match it from there - should match something from 1964. One possiblity is the title to the car could have belonged to A car built in 1964, and so the story goes... As I understand it first replicas didn't come until around the late 70s anyhow. And, hypothetically let's say even if it were truly built in 1964 and it was even an authentic replica, the asking price would be higher - ya think!

Looks like the ad for the Cobra "built in 1964 and first registered in 1964" got pulled from Cobra Country.

Doug, that car is back with a revised description:

"registered in California as a 1964 Cobra." and "It's a very early Cobra replica (perhaps sometime in the 1970s), builder unknown;"

Hey Rodney- The old addage "buyer beware" applies. Probably would be fine if the car is sold outside of CA. Can't expect CobraCountry to monitor title requirements by state.
