Is there an unknown original Cobra?
Just curious if anyone has heard rumors of the existence of an unknown Cobra. Yesterday and today I’ve received emails from ‘car guy’ friends on the West coast that a newspaper reporter has written an article about a previously unknown Cobra. One rumor said it was an unknown Daytona Coupe. One guy mentioned the number CSX2590 but that number is not valid according to the Registry. Most likely it’s someone that has mistaken a replica for an original car.
Anyway, if anyone has heard anything about this car or the article post it here or send me a PM. Thanks.

Whew!!! Boy theres a shocker, I sure look forward to hearing more details. Peter is a man of integrity with a substantial history, I would have no reason to doubt his word on this. MIGHT question the author of the article however, man this is killer news.
I wonder if Peter at some point well reveal his 'secret identity' as well as the secret car.
I'm tempted to send Peter an e-mail but I suspect right now his phone is ringing off the hook and his e-mail is filled to over flowing with questions. Perhaps it is best to sit back and watch this unfold out of respect.
Ernie
PS
Peter, were dieing to hear more about this!

Damn, Jim...now you got me going.
Digging thru old pic files, I have a lot of "unclassified" coupe pics. (meaning I couldn't match the pic to a CSX number.)
Unless this is dated wrong, I have this one from 19 66, which should have been after the Coupes' heyday year. I never could match it to a CSX # due to the "smoothie" hood... without any cutouts.

I got an e-mail back from my buddy at SCM.
Something's up.... he was pretty shocked that I asked him the question.
He got all coy with a "I can neither confirm nor deny..." attitude.
He did say he would send me a link to something interesting when he got into the office.

Local celebrity has rare race car hidden away.
We had a pleasant surprise this weekend, when we interviewed local race car designer, Peter Brock, for an upcoming Sunday feature article. During the interview, we found, in Mr. Brock’s collection, an ultra-rare sports car from the 60’s.
For nearly 44 years it was thought that there were only six 289 Cobra Daytona Coupes produced. These are the ferocious cars that won the World Manufacturing Championship in 1965. These rare cars have changed hands for more than 13 million dollars.
Now this Redmond, WA celebrity has revealed that he owns a secret seventh Cobra Daytona Coupe. We were to interview Peter Brock to discuss how he worked with SPF to redesign his famous coupe from the 60’s. As we walked through his storage garage filled with Datsun race cars, engine blocks, engineering drawings and other memorabilia we asked about a car under a tarp. Peter proceeded to roll back the dusty tarp and reveal a sleek two-seater fastback sports coupe that looked exactly like the ones in the faded posters on the wall.
Mr. Brock then explained that he was given this car by Carroll Shelby as a gift for his work in designing the coupe. So as not to upset other employees Shelby swore Brock to secrecy of the car’s existence. This coupe with the VIN CSX2590 was never disclosed in published documents.
More on the career of Peter Brock and his interesting car appear in our articles in next Sunday’s Lifestyles section. The full storey will be featured in an upcoming Sports Car Market magazine. The car will also go on the auction block this August in Monterey, CA. Save your pennies.

I have an update...kind of. But I am not getting my hopes up.
My buddy at SCM sent me a link to an "article"... but it is apparently on an internal server or an intranet or something, because it keeps asking me to login and then denies access. He did say he would send me a copy of a subscriber newsletter that I "would find interesting."
I just went thru about 300 pictures I have in my Brock file...
...I did find this one.
This was Peter Brock when he ran BRE with the Datsuns...now that was 1969...and there is an unstriped coupe in his pit area.

Ron,
Found out some really interesting stuff while digging through those 67-69 period magazine boxes this morning (only 35+ of them at the shop), will shoot you a PM with the details and see if your friend can confirm. I cannot believe that the SAAC guys missed this one, damn wish I had been the one to find it first..
Yours in Fords,
Bill S.

If this coupe is real and going on the auction block come August wouldn’t it be listed? For a mere $13,000,000 per copy if real how much would it cost to manufacture an aluminum replica with a real CSX2590 VIN number? Why would Brock wait 44 years to reveal this gift from Shelby? Is this April 1st?

Maybe he didn't want to be hounded by everybody to get him to sell....still, sure sounds like a good 4/1 joke. if it is, it is hands down the best EVER!
Ron...that picture in the BRE days sure is interesting....................
Imagine what THAT car would bring...probably unmolested, and owned by Brock since day 1!!!!!

Just got a PM with the SCM Insider Newsletter attached....this is to go out later today to paying subscribers.
It was HTML-based so I couldn't do a quick cut and paste...but I wanted to post it... I uploaded it to my server.
It's a copy of the whole e-mail.. about the sixth item down is a little non-descript reference to the Coupe
http://my427.com/files/FW_%20SCM%20I...%20Results.htm
...this is getting r-e-a-l interesting.

Got it!!!!!
It was behind a firewall, since it is a future article and work-in-process...not out yet.
My contact wouldn't let me at the file, but he did do a screen-grab. I put it in my Gallery in fullsize.
Also, clicking on this smaller picture should give you the full sized image.
Holy smokes!
