Default Untrained eye spots difference between 2 Cobra's

A friend of mine took his wife to Barrett Jackson auction last weekend and while at the Roush booth there were 2 Cobras sitting side by side from different manufacturers.. She has probably only seen 5 all of her life.. She tells him that the one car's finish is a lot nicer and interior is better and many other details are nicer also than the other car..it was around $10k more but came with a top, etc.. both were factory built.. guess which one I own.

It's amazing to me that an untrained eye could spot the difference in quality, I personally have never compared the 2 side by side, I always thought I had one with as good or not better quality just minus the top, etc.. thus the difference in price.
Next time I buy a car I will borrow her to check it out...

Default Look at and Original and then a good replica

trs900 If you looked at an original and a good replica car side by side like at the KitCar show at Carlisle PA. The replica is alot nicer with the paint and fit and finish. Price of the orginial cobra $225,000.00. Price on the replica $ 70,000. and it is a driver. The originials are beautiful in there own way, but only a few are driven any more. Up till last year even less where raced. You would have to ask FFR about the 198 car and where it will end up. I hope it gets a great home. Rick L.

How true. Mr. Mustang posted a funny story last year about just that happening (Cobra aficionados critiquing a poorly built replica, only to find out that it was not a replica at all).

One was a ringer! This I know. The results have contradicted this observation on the sales side though... especially at Scottsdale.

Rick,
I looked at the date of your post a couple times to make sure it was current. If you know of an original Cobra for $225,000. please send me a PM

Default The show was 2 years ago at the ERA booth

A-snake The 2 cobras where at the ERA booth. I am not sure if Peter still has the originial FIA car. You would have to get in touch with ERA. Rick L.

With all due respect, with an original FIA car you may have left a digit off the price.

What I find more interesting is when a company's replica becomes so good it becomes its own car that, in addition, looks like a Cobra. And as the improvements continue to evolve, that car may then even look less like a Cobra. Sooner or later, it is no longer "a replica."

Default My car passed replica when I started to modifly it

patrickt Pat your car passed this point after you added the double roll bar setup. I have never seen an of the originials with a double setup. Mine stopped when the P/S system, roll cage, race seat, 5 speed clutchless trans, Fuel injection, and 482 cube motor found it's way under the hood. By the way, which half of your A$$ did you loss? Hope you still have the wallet side. Rick L.

I'm slowly working my way up to a "full smartass" designation.

Default You would not catch me paying $2,250,000 for ANY CAR

A-Snake For that kind of money and if I had it, there would be an aluminium P-51 mustang in the back yard. It's alot faster, even more beautiful, and there is something about a MERLIN V12 supercharged that just says it all. The only car that if I had that kind of money would be the 198 car, out of respect for a great human being and a good friend. Couple of years ago I think that Pete was looking to sell the car for about $300,000.00. Rick L.

Anything like this?

ERA only measured CSX2345, they don't own it! Just duplicated it!

Default I think Heather is still the owner of the car

427sharpe I don't know who owns the car. Last I heard it was still in the FFR hauler. I think Heather still owns the car. She has changed numbers and e-mail. I have no idea about where the "198" car will end up. Dick had talked about a possiblity of it ending up in the Peterson museum, again not sure. If she sells the car at Barett Jackson, wonder what the price would be? The Paxton car went for 5 million and this has no racing history. Rick L.

Yeah, I understand -- but the trickier issue that the Kirkhams, ERA, etc. are facing is "how far can we go to make our cars better if those improvements depart from a strict resemblance to the original cars?"
