I try to keep it dry. I take a good look at doppler weather radar before I go anywhere. In an "emergency" thats what freeway underpasses are for.

However, I was with the South lake Tahoe run last fall when we got snowed on overnight. Glad I had a nice all-weather car cover.

Smile Yes we drive in the rain

I have been caught in the rain several times. A couple of times at car shows but we just cover the Cobra and wait it out. Last summer on the return trip from the London Cobra Show we were rain on from Cincinnati to Sheppardsville, KY about 70 - 80 miles. Coach had 1 1/2" of water in his floor board. We stopped at a truck stop and wait 5 hours so we could continue. Made for a long day.
We don't leave the house when it's raining but we have returned in the rain a lot.

Some of our best stories are about Cobras in the rain.

Lean forward and drive faster

last summer car show, waiting in a bank drive thru

we drove 60 in the rain this day going to a show

most of our miles are in the sun

I'd have to agree with Sal, in Florida you don't know when it'll hit... End of the world rain for 30mins. then a sauna for the next 3 hours. Typically between noon and five every day in the spring / early summer.

You've got maybe 10mins. from when you first see the clouds...

yup - sometimes you don't have a choice especially ona multi-day trip.

Rain tips:

1) Drill hole in lowest part of floorboard
2) Drill hole in lowest part of each seat shell
3) If it starts raining, don't stop
4) Frog Togs makes great rain gear

I figure if motorcyclists are OK in the rain, then what is the problem driving a Cobra in the rain?? And rust is usually not an issue with our cars....

I don't drive the Cobra in the rain by choice....It has happened three times...only because the day started out with sunshine and the rain came in quickly and dumped on me.

However...what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!!!!

Default ignored at show and shine

Since SPF's can't cut it at the Australian Nationals Show and Shine (even when brand new) I'm not so precious anymore.
Rain doesn't bother me (except for the traction and vision issues) and dirt roads, well, I reckon the track work is more of a bashing for the car than a bit of dust and mud.

Living in Oregon we can almost be assured that sometime during the year we'll end up in some rain somewhere. I have functioning windshield wipers, a top and side curtains which keep me reasonably dry if I run into some liquid sunshine.
The biggest problem with driving in the rain, and why I avoid it when I can, is the side pipes. Anything that splashes on them cooks instantly and it takes me twice as long to clean the side pipes up as any other part of the car. Four O steel wool and metal polish works o.k. but it still takes a lot of laying on my back scrubbing the junk off the underside of the pipes.

I never drive in the rain. It's pretty easy to check weather.com to be safe before heading out if the conditions are questionable.

Don't ever bring your car to Florida. Weather reports don't apply here. Come to think of it, the regular laws of weather don't apply here. It was downpouring the other day and there wasn't a cloud in the sky over us.

Isn't that the truth. First trip to Florida I was a mear 23 years old, rented a car with "T" tops for the wife and I. Went to check into our hotel, room wasn't quite ready. Stopped by the bar for a few drinks. Got to our room round 3:00 and it seemed like it was midnight. Looked out the window and I have never seen that much rain. Car never dried out, had about 1 inch on the floor before we could cover the car. Anyway I never plan on driving in the rain. It's squirrely enough on dry pavement. Definitely a fair weather car.

...try to avoid it at all costs. It's not as much the moldy carpeting or cracking leather that sends me screaming into the night, it's the careening sideways into oncoming traffic at interstate speeds that sends the real shivers. My M/T 315 drag radials tend to hydroplane even if there's just a light dew on the tarmac..

Once.

Look up "hydroplane" in the dictionary and you will see a picture of UT in Gunrack.

Not even raining, just wet pavement. I found out the hard way that my super-sticky Nittos turn into Teflon when they hit wet asphalt.
