Default Anyone consider a propane conversion?

I was reading over this site. What do you think the pros and cons would be?

Could you put in a tank large enough to get you very far?

Default Randy Swantz runs propane

Randy comes to Run & Gun every year since 99. He runs propane. He is also the record holder for pikes peak on propane. It's a shell valley car with alot of work. He does run a SBC, but it's fast and loud. Not sure on the power level but with 10's 1/4 mile and the 130's mph, the motor is maken over 600HP easy. Rick Lake If you want his number I can get it for you. Nice guy, works very hard, and drives even harder. Rick

Default propane

Propane was used alot in the 70's. Some of the pros are the ability to use a setup that will let you run gasoline or propane, I think the power output was about 98% of gasoline then, no nasty exhaust fumes when burned in internal combustion it produces water and you engine will last much longer because it burns much cleaner. When I was stationed at Travis AFB my neighbor ran this on an old chevy truck. When he would have it smog checked they would jokeingly ask if his engine was running (EPA approved system).

Biggest con is filling it up, thats where the gasoline backup comes in. Dom't know what the cost is now for propane. There are a few other gasses that burn this clean that are non-petrol related also.

Last I checked propane was pretty close to three dollars a gallon. Not sure what kind of fuel mileage you get with it but it would need to be a lot better than what your currently running to make it worth your while in my opinion.
