Default ACME performance upgrades

I saw this and instantly thought of my old Cobra buddies. If these were still available, I'm sure at least 10 of you would have a rocket motor bolted to the differential...on a fiberglass car...right under the fuel tank.

I give you; The Jet Age.

Rich-- great reading. Thanks for the link. The Evel Knievel question came up almost immediately. Two friends and me were halfway between La Guardia and Miami, at about 37000ft, on an Eastern L-1011, when the pilot came on to inform us, with great ceremony and decor that Evel "had attempted, and not completed the jump--somethin about not enough power--and a chute popping too early--but he's OK, and says he will try again." He went on to tell us that Bobby Riggs lost him match, and that a group of Hells Angels crashed their Hogs through the Porta-potties for excitement . We all thought it was great (Always flew first class back then) that this guy up front, riding herd on those RB-211s, was just one of the "boys" like the rest of us. It motivated a large intake of champagne, and we all got off in Miami pi$$ed to the gills. What great times!!!

Maurice, I watched Evel fall into the Snake River Canyon live from a rock outcroping a little up river. From the second he launched, it was obvious he was not going to make it to the other side, or even close to the other side. I seem to recall the chute deploying about 20 feet off the ramp. What a great road trip that was. Even though it was the whole point of the trip, Evel Knievel's jump was a relatively minor event during that long ago long weekend.
