Fire suit recommendations?
Hi guys,
It's been several years since there's been a thread on this, but what are the current recommendations?
I won't be doing any SCCA events, just HPDE's and open track stuff.
I'm in Texas and I'll be driving in the summer usually, so if anyone has thoughts on any that might "breathe" better than others (or the opposite-one's that broil you), that'd be helpful.
Thanks!
PS-already have a helmet and shoes, just filling the in-between.

I've got about a dozen by various manufacturers and by far the best for breathability was Stand 21. Fairly expensive though. Sparco has some very nice new ones as well. A simple single layer Simpson with correct underwear would probably suffice and not be too hot.

I'm not sure what the requirements are for HPDE but a standard military flight suit available at any military surplus store is made from nomex, breathes rather well and doesn't cost much. However you won't be making any fashion statements!

A recent , within the last 2 or 3 issues, of Grassroots MotorSports had an article on fire suits, same edition that also reviewed helmets and shoes. Checked the on line edition, article is not available.

Whatever you decide to get, make sure you try it on at a local shop first as they all fit a bit different. My suggestion is to make sure you get a TWO LAYER fire suit, preferably a single piece unit........

Miles,
I was just out to the Hallet Race Track and I noticed they had some of their suits on sale for about half off (Sparco-listed for around $800 on sale for $350 (nice white and black) and several red and blue ones for about $250 (I think they were G-Gorce).

I don't think a fire suite is required for HPDE. But, I use one anyway. I use a single layer two piece from G-Force. Inexpensive, but well made. On hot days, I wear shorts and t-shirt, and put the fire suit on over that. Then I can quickly remove it for the download.

It's the May edition of Grassroots Motorsports magazine that had the article regarding selection/evaluation of fire suits

Well, I've already spent a bunch of money on that place, might as well spend a little more....
I think I bought the new winner's circle, you know....
Great tip, Clois, I'll call tomorrow.
Thanks to the rest of you too, keep 'em coming!

I paid $800 for that $350 Sparco at Hallett . It is a great suit.

consider a one piece so that you are not eposed where the two pieces meet, dur to your position in the car after an accident wth fre, and/or as the saftey crew is getting you out of the vehicle. cb

Heck, up until this year my local dirt track didn't even require a fire suit. They requirement was carhart minimum! haha But have you ever tried to catch carhart on fire? I run a 1 piece single layer proban with nomex undies head to toe, racing shoes and gloves.
Check out www.daymotorsports.com. Probably not far from you.

Firesuits
It's worthwhile remembering that if air can get through so can fire.
If you are going to wear it for extended periods of time there are suits today that have ventilation system technology from something as simple as a forced air blower all the way up to A/C technology. Of course the price goes up with the technology.
