Well, the way I see it, we still need someone to take up the cause. Otherwise, all this talk about "where" is wasted breath.
Sure, I'd love to keep the BASH here in Cali, but I'd be willing to travel if the event promised to be worth the trip.
Thus far, Joe of KMP fame is the only one to step up to the plate. Knowing how the Kirkhams have handled other events, I would have no doubt that it would be a first class event, well worth the trip.
If someone else wants to throw his / her hat in the ring, great, lets hear it!

Here's the thing. Not sure Sears Point is the bestest place for newbies...something about smashing into walls. Willow springs and Thunderhill provide relatively safe runoff areas. Buttonwillow is a bit short.
So, we can park the wifies at the Beverly Wilshire and given them a few credit cards for Rodeo while we caravan up to Willow Springs for the day (about an hour or so), and then cruise on 2 or Mulhollond or something on our way to Spago's...
...or dump their lovely bums at the Silverado for a day at the spa while we hump it over that little road and do the dirty at Thunderhill (or Sears Point if it seems right to everyone), and then come back and take over the Wine Train the next evening while we tour the wineries during the day.
....or we decide to try out Buttonwillow. There's a Motel 6 on Buck Owens Drive in Bakersfield, where the lovely ladies of our lives can enjoy plastic wrapped bisquits while they make some coffee one cup at a time and maybe shop at the 7/11 down the street while we practice stop and go by filling up Buttonwillow with 200 Cobras. At night, there is the Bakersfield nightlife...watching gas flames from distant wells, watching mosquitos get zapped by bug lights, etc.
Ok, two oughtta three ain't bad.

Don't see any "posted" scheduled events at Infineon or Thunderhill for May 2009. Anyone want to take the lead for track day?
We just need an Indian Casino with enclosed parking! Since it could be on Indian territory .... would they have the same insurance requirements?
We had a great BACC/NorCal pre Bash meet in April in Sonoma, thanks to John. +60 cars via this forum. Next time, add a drive for a mini bash? (and I won't have to worry about vapor lock!)

If we did Sonoma/Napa area then I might be able to lead a cruise to the different wineries in the area. I could pull together a nice twisty loop. Car show could be held at winery possibly or at Sears Point. Track day could happen on Saturday with maybe a cruise day on Friday which I think most would prefer.

Honestly, that's the bestest plan I've heard. I nominate Morgan take it and run, and he's got the skills (really) to do it with John and others continuing what they do.

Sound Advice
This is lifted directly from the "Open Track Rules" section of the same website:
"Mufflers are required on all cars. The exhaust system must be able to meet the sound limit for the venue: Laguna Seca - 90dB(A), Infineon Raceway - 103dB(A), Thunderhill - 105dB(A). No open exhausts will be allowed. Note: For Thunderhill exceptions to this rule may be made on a case by case basis, at the discretion of the chief steward or event organizer. There are no exceptions at Laguna Seca or Infineon Raceway."

Come to think of it.... Fontana could be a possibility with road course, 1/4 mile drags and some backroads to play on.
It seemed plenty good for the SAAC event a few years ago.

I like the discussion, that is what we need to see.
If we (Kirkham Motorsports) are going to be the Who, Utah would need to be the Where. We have a good relationship with Miller Motorsports Park and that would be a great facility for a track day. Park City may be a good day trip destination to keep the women happy. Drop them off in town for shopping and then head to the surrounding mountain roads for some fun driving. I hear that they even allow alcoholic beverages in Utah now.
One concern that I have talked with Duane about in the past was that one manufacturer would take over the event and then people with other brands of cars would not feel welcome. We are aware of that danger and would want this event to continue with the family feel where everyone is welcome regardless of make.
I have not contacted Duane with a proposal. We are trying to gather info and if we can do anything to help we will move forward. If we can not do it here, we will be happy to attend and support elsewhere.

Hey, at this point, I'm not sure if one of those Smart cars could qualify at a dB(A) of 90 or under at Laguna Seca.

Sign me up if it Sears Point. I have been there in the Cobra. Nice. I also have been to Laguna Seca. But like mentioned in a previous post, Monterey might be problematic.
At Sears Point they used to have the "Wine Country Classic" event in which original
Cobras, GT350's and all other 60's era car would compete. I think I even saw the Hudson
Hornet in a four wheel drift.

Hi Joe, All - Sorry, I have to post this reply.
I just got a phone call on this thread and I guess I have to let some things out of the bag since this thread forces me to.
First, the interest and excitement is appreciated with regard to WSCB and the intent to carry it on. There are some things we could not talk about Saturday night. The clue here to consider is the people involved and the charter participants, not the event or name itself. Here are a few follow-up clarifications in case it was not clear as announced in person at the Saturday night closing meeting at WSCB 2008. As for ongoing interest, as stated clearly (we thought), all proposals in writing would be considered and reviewed by those who created WSCB with any intent or planned intent of use; and me with the final say and decision on it. The name, DBA entity, organization, equipment, banners, and proprietary association with d.e.cooney productions has not been released to anyone or any entity so it's NOT "up for grabs" so to speak. I was not under the assumption anyone would just try and grab it without seeking review and approval, so let's be clear here. We are not passing the torch here in a solicited or unsoliciated manner. This is a message to anyone pondering the idea - Don't try it please; there is more we can't explain in a public forum.
My name is directly tied to WSCB, Western States Cobra Bash, the "brand", our websites, T-Shirts, Posters, Photos, Hats, Clothing/Apparel, Treasury/Accounts/Non-Profit Org, Donations/Agreements, All WSCB Logos, vendor relationships, agreements, and everything that has been developed and implemented here. As you may not be aware, core team members have a say in the matter into me, out of respect of them too, along with some 1st/2nd year attendees we are consulting with now. The other issue is release of liability and that would be a written legal agreement and turnover as well in response to any viable and approved proposal. i.e. not for sale or transfer. WSCB is dead and mothballed at this time. I can't say anything further about it at this time for confidential reasons. I hope this helps, as I did not want this thread to go any further without some clarification. More detailed explanation will be provided to those with proposals that get reviewed and formally considered. I've got two on the table now, and have passed on both. Here is the way it goes. If it's not done right, it won't be done at all using the WSCB name and heritage There are reputations and history at stake here and it won't just go to anyone or it may never go to anyone. Part of it is to preserve it. The other part is to see what gets proposed over the next few years. Till then, a few other developments are forming now to keep all the same people together in some way, giving them options to allow the people, relationships, and history to remain in tact. My goal, and John's goal, and many of our core and 1st/2nd year attendees is to protect and preserve that. We can't discuss all the details right now. The Charter member attendees who attended years one through four have already sent in emails and they understand what is going on here.
ALL, as another reminder - please consider WSCB as officially CLOSED, NOT ON THE MARKET, NOT FOR SALE, NOT FOR TRANSFER or TAKEOVER, NOT AVAILABLE, NOT UP FOR GRABS. This is all we can say about it at this time.
With that said, unofficially, other group "prototype" interests are forming stemming from the roots of the same core group of people and attendees who made WSCB what it was for the first four years.
Possible Next Steps, formerly affiliated with WSCB:
1. Something to do with Cobra people, gathering, stayovers, and drives.
2. Something to do with a track, people, and former people involved.
3. Not using any WSCB names or affiliations or references.
Stay tuned. Can't say any more on that note. Meanwhile, have a good summer.
Obviously, anything that anyone wants to do otherwise not using any of the former WSCB names or references is up to you and the more Cobra events the better as far as many of us are concerned. Thanks, Duane
