Next Western States Cobra Bash
I hope this thread has not been started already and I hope that I am not stepping on any toes. I just wanted to get a central location to discuss the next big get together for western states Cobra, GT40 and Daytona enthusiasts.
In case you missed the news, Duane will not be doing the WSCB as we have come to know (and love) it. It sounded to me like a combination of the event outgrowing its original intent, too much personal risk for Duane, and some of the original participants and organizers are moving on pursue other phases in life. (feel free to clarify if I missed any points)
Duane said that he may turn over the reigns and would like written proposals from interested parties.
To get things started, is anyone interested in a get together here in Utah?
We have a great new race track, lots of nice drives through the mountains. It is a long haul from California, Washington and Oregon, but not bad for Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, and Nevada.

Go, Joe, go!
Sounds good to me, especially since I don't have a trailer to haul my car, but I'll bet attendance would drop off quite a bit since a lot of the West Coast owners probably wouldn't make the drive...

It's not much longer of a drive from Socal to Utah than it is to Reno but much longer for the Bay Area and Northern guys.

Infineon sounds nice. There's wine and more wine. Lot's of nice drives and wine tasting. Oh, and it's close too.
Reno is far. Utah is, um, er, farther.

It doesn't matter to me where the next one is held, I think that there would be more to do in California than Utah as far as things to do other than the track day, I think that this year was the best and I hate to see Duane leaving the helm of this great event. From my perspective I would attend wherever the event was held.

For maximum participation, I think a more central location would be the best.
I think I heard someone with a deep thundering vioce suggest Montery!

Have any of you seen the Miller Motorsports Museum?....5 GT350s / 500, multiple Cobras,a Daytona, and the 1966 LeMans winning GT40. Can you say Mecca?
Yes, it would be a ten hour drive for me. Longer for many others. But do-able.

I love Monterey, but there is absolutely no chance of a trackday at Laguna Seca. The noise limit will exclude all Cobras, and probably nearly all Daytonas and GT40s. Sears Point could work if it were available, its a great track.

I don't think that "things to do" is the real issue where ever it is held. As large as the Bash has gotten the issue is more about facilities. Enough room for people, cars, trailers, etc. If the bash moves there will still be plenty of people that attend, they just will probably be a new group. I would like to see the WSCB remain as Duane has evolved it but it sounds like to do that will require some new blood taking over responsibility.
As someone that had attended every WSCB, I can attest that each one has been better than the last. Duane and his entire crew deserve a big thanks and the utmost respect from all those who have attended the Bash.
I think that the real issue is more about Who is going to do it rather than Where it is held.
Dick

Museums are everywhere...Bealieu in New Forest, England is nice too (Cobras, GT40s). BFD.
Already opportunities to go to Miller/SLC.
Too hot...too far. That's why many of us stopped going to the Fling from out here.
The vast majority of folks who have gone to the Bash for the past four years have been from California...because we could get there (many with wives) in a half a day.
Tracks...Sears Point (pre-label), Thunderhill, Willow Springs, etc. Roads...different stretches of PCH, the Sierras, etc.
Let's keep it here...maybe go north (Portland?) or south (San Diego) in alternate years.
JMHO.

I didn't suggest Monterey because of their strict noise rules. Thunderhill is a pretty good track as well, but not nearly as big and nice as Infineon. Also, did I mention that Napa, Sonoma, Glen Ellen, Calistoga, St. Helena, etc. has a wine country and some wonderful restaurants?
And Nascar comes once a year.

Remember that we may end up having two things (a cruise at one time of the year, and a track event held separately). If we are trying to keep it as one big event, then the wives better have someplace to relax, play or enjoy. Staying at some roadside motels and having nothing to do but sit at the track every day (which my wife has always been willing to do) just ain't gonna cut it.
Dick's right...if it's going to be one large event, we need a "Who."

The problem with Portland is the weather. Rain is still pretty common through June, and can be hit and miss even in July and August.

It's good that this is beeing discussed right now. I think a California event is the way to go for the maximum attendence potential. How about using the date May 14-17 2009 in keeping with the continuity of past WSCB? (This way I can actually attend by taking the vacation time off of work!) How about instead of a road race track day the possability of a drag strip track day? That way it would open more locations. My .02 cents-John

Yep, and darned strict about it, too. An exemption is given for the historics, and maybe a few other big events. But for a club type event...no way.
