Default Photo size

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I'm asking because I don't pretend to know everything. When posting a picture on a thread, I go onto Corel, resize the picture to 39.5 kb or less and upload. The picture then comes up as a thumbnail and when clicked on isn't much bigger. How do you get a larger picture. And at the risk of causing unrest, why does the GT40 site size the pictures automatically, is this some special software? Thanks for your help!

There are two variables in an image...file size and pixel size.

One is related to the other by image compression.

We have the software set to limit file size of attachments to the 39k value.
If the image is not compressed, it could still be very small.

See if you can create an image in Corel that is 640 x 480 and then Save a Copy as a compressed JPEG...that should get the file size lower than 40k

You can alway put your larger pictures in the Gallery and then simply link to them in your post. It is not that hard and they will show full-sized in the post.

Is there software out there that CC could install in the mainframe that would accept any picture, and re size to an acceptable size automatically?.

I use the Microsoft Resizer Tool

Its fast, easy and free. I use it to minimize the large picture sizes down to about 70 to 80 KB so I don't use up all the space in my gallery. Also use it to get the pic down to the 39.9 KB limit if I want to use it as an attachment.

I agree with Warren. That Microsoft tool rocks. Once you download the tool it is really really simple to use. All you do is find the picture using "my computer" or explorer. Right click on the photo and you'll now have an option that says "resize pictures." Click on that and a box will pop up asking if you want to resize it to small, medium, or large. Pick which one you want and click ok. A new version of the photo is created right along side the old version with the exact same name except small, medium or large is added to the file name. I use it all the time whenever I want to email someone some photos and I don't want to wait forever for the original photos to upload. Give it a try. You'll love it.

I do it the same way. I resize mine to the smallest and then load the picture to the photo gallery. When you click on the picture to view it, it opens in normal viewing size.

Warren,

I downloaded that MS resizing tool. Super easy to use. Thanks for the tip!

I was using MS Picture It to resize images, but you have to open the program, resize the image, then save it.

Thanks for the tip!

Glad you like it. Various moderators here have posted the link to that software. Play around with it, especially the advanced/custom portion.

Even when you want to attach a file to your post (without putting it in your gallery first), and the pic is above the 39.1 Kb limit, you can still go to the upload image section of a post, click on the pic that is too big, and resize it .... select the reduced size pic and attach it to your post.

Many times the SMALL selection does not get a pic below the 39.1 limit, and the WinCE makes it so small that its hard to see the pic when posted. Thats when I use the ADVANCED section and type in values in the CUSTOM boxes.

Here is a pic that was 101KB. Using the SMALL resize it was 40 KB (too big) whereas a WinCE as only 7KB (would be very small). So I tried Custom and typed in 550 by 550. The pic was now 32KB. Mucho better!
