Good deal on 9" lsd
hi,
looking for good deal on new lsd 9"diff head to fit into my independant rear end. Will be behind kc427 sbf and tko600 so will get a work out.
I have been told tru trac are best ? Will need about 3.4-3.5 ratio, 31 spline axle.
Need some one i can trust because i'll be shipping it over here to new zealand and don't need hassles. Any ideas on where to search or who to talk to appreciated
cheers glen

Remember you generally get what you pay for. Try Reider Racing in Michigan (yes, that's a long way from where you are). They can take of your truetrac needs along with any other differential that strikes your fancy. http://reiderracing.com/truetrac.htm BTW, ERA uses them for their Dana rebuilds.

Another Kiwi! Welcome aboard mate. Is Segedins still in Auckland? I used to get diffs and stuff from them. If you need any help getting stuff shipped from the US I can help at this end but I am up in the Northeast.
Cheers

Thanks for that,
yes i've found you get what you pay for too....priced up motor's and gear box's through sedgins, good stuff but not able to compete on price for identicle parts, cutting out middle man lets me up spec for same money! although it add's time to everything...still trying to get motor from customs..."is it diesel or petrol, not noted on invoices"...good things come to those who wait!
that's a rash offer for help with shipping...i'm just getting started, there's no telling what i could have ya wraping up in bubble wrap!
cheers glen

yup ordered almac couple weeks ago, well just chassis as start, to save body damage until im ready for it,
They sent me searchin for 9"diff heads, ratios, tyre/rim sizes, it just goes on and on. Swaying towards 275/40*17 225/45*17 and about the 3.5 ratio
Almac has become kiwirace cars run by colin welsh who took over in 94 and i've been pesterin him with alsorts of scenario's,great guy.
Going up to auckland to pick up motors and box with my xr8 ute first thing on mon...even with $2 per lt and half day here at w. shop cheaper than $400 they wanted to freight it..then i'll be ordering bits and polishing it till i get chassis in couple of months vinn'd and cert'd.

Tuska HP and torque of your motor
Tuska What is the HP and torque of your motor? I have run similiar carriers before and they are good for about 550 HP and torque. I have looked and seen no rate numbers. That is not a cheap carrier. When my TRIPLE-D rear then changed to Torsen-Gleason they say 600HP and Torque. It is more like 500/500 I broke 2 carriers. I was also looking at the truetrac and the same basic carrier came in the F-body GM cars. In the 8" rearend and we replaced a number of them for abuse or worn out worn gears. IMO and after autocrossing and roadracing, you can live with the locker of Detroit. It's a little cluncky on hard turns but your foot controls that. I did like the worn gear carrier when they worked. No clutches or springs to wear out. Just something to think about. It's your hard earned money. Nascar uses them on there 2 roadcourse races, I hear they are done after the 400 mile race. Just try and get go info before you spend alot of money. Rick Lake

Hey Tuska, i am running a nine inch aluminium diff centre in my independant Jag rear end. Bought it from a company called Diff Technics in Sydney a few years ago. I know they made them for Commodore rear ends and others as well. See if you can find their details, they may be able to help. Freight would be cheaper than from the states as well.
Andy.

search continues
Not sure of exact hp/tq figures ,have only just unwrapped motor from box so far! sitting in auw of it at mo! But your estimate of 500/500 should be close.
Steelie Gears( supplier in nz) recommends a trac loc diff, which is different again to tru trac and detroit locker? Anyone had experience with that design?
I'll have a search for diff technic's and see what they can supply/cost's.
Weight of car would also speed up wear of unit too? how much do nascar's weigh?

Quaife
I just ordered a Quaife for my 31 spline 9" and I'm putting 800ish to the ground. I'll let you know if it explodes. Lifetime Racing Warranty...by the way, that's why I went with them.
