They should look like a choclate color. Better to cold than to hot. My father used to own a service station in the 60's and 70's and told me stories about people who drove 99 percent of their time in town. Well as you can imagine, as with most cobras, engines were not computer controlled those days. The problem was that they kept fouling out plugs in town and would switch to a hotter plug. That worked fine unil they left detroit and hit the highway and got about 20 miles south of Toledo and melted a piston.
