Definitely a good idea. Where does one buy a welding blanket?

I ordered it from www.toolfetch.com -- it's called the "Velvet Shield." If you didn't know better you'd think it was just a piece of rough, thick velvet. It folds easily and tucks behind your seat.

I just stand up and step out. In fact, that's the only way I can get out. If it had a top they would have to bring me food and a bed pan.

That's the main reason that I resisted putting the top up the last time I got caught in the rain. Just pushed down further on the go pedal to force the rain over the top!

Pat I have the same permenant mark to
patrickt I have been bitten by the cobra. I melted the pants leg to the side pipe. 2 hours with a plastic razor blade to remove the cloth. The stain mark is still there. 9 years later. See you still can teach old dogs new tricks and get them off the porch. Your setup looks good.

Thanks Patrick and Rick, just ordered mine on line too. I need something for the shows/local hang-out. At the cost of gas and time it's just easier to let-your-fingers-do-the-walking.

Half throttle street cars do bad things when you drive them and then turn
around and bite you when you try to get out. Macho is expensive!

Q's:
- how long should they be to drape them as shown in the last pic? (I don't have the car yet to measure).
- how easy is this material to cut?
Thanks!

If you didn't know they were welding blankets you would think they were just normal blankets on a bed that weren't that soft and comfortable. A nice pair of scissors cuts them very easily. Wait until you have the car, and then you can custom cut a piece to fit nicely.

Same, I liked the idea so much I installed mine with snaps - they just roll up and store nicely inside the door sill.

Hi Adam,
I don't have photos of the snap locations and my car is sealed in a bag for the winter so can't get to the car until Spring. Pretty simple, though. I drilled two holes through the carpet into the aluminum panel on the inside of the door sill down low near the floor so the blanket can roll up and tuck between the seat and door sill. I used snaps designed to be screwed into metal/wood and installed the heads of the snaps on the blanket - nothing to it. After six seasons of driving and almost 15,000 miles, I've never used the driver's side blanket and I've never burned myself (yet). I grew up around motorcycles and burned myself so many times I'm pretty aware of hot exhaust so maybe that's why I'm conscious of the pipes.
I've used the passenger side on a number of occasions for passengers that I didn't think could get in and out of the car without touching the pipe. Used it for my wife in the beginning but she said she didn't need it early on. I used to say "watch the pipes" every time we got out of the car, but she says it herself now or cuts me off if I start to say it. She did burn herself once but she was on her cell phone as she got out of the car, so no sympathy.
Kevin
