What do you have under the hood? Your CAR'S hood!!!
OK, so you've got an ERA, Superformance, FFR, Kirkham, Unique, BDR, etc....
But what' ya got under the hood?
Big block? Small block? 390 HP? 650 HP? Side oiler?
What made you decide to go with that? Why a small/big block? Why only 380 HP when you can have SO much more? Why those headers?

All aluminum 482 c.i. KC/Pond FE. Why? Because I can and it weighs what an iron 289 weighs with a wee bit mo' power and the FE sound.

I could not make up my mind what I wanted to build. I ended up buying a used completed Cobra with the engine I liked the least, a 347 stroker with 10^ more duration on the cam than I would have chosen. So far I love it.
Now before this thread turns into another BB/SB war, I'll make a few quick points.
If you can afford it and can put up with its pissing on your garage floor, you will love a 427 FE and never ever have to make up a excuse for why your car doesn't have one.
One observation is that most Cobras I have seen had small blocks at around 2 or 3 to every big block. Last year I counted them at London, and it was very near 3:1, but I forget the numbers. Keeping this 3:1 number in mind, read the FE forum and the SB forum, and you will see there are more FE problems posted. Maybe SB are easier to work on and they don't need to ask for help, or maybe FE are more prone to problems. FE are a wierd pain in the butt to work on engine with many little things that can bite you. Once propperly built, I see no reason why they should not be as reliable as any other engine, but that is my observation.
If you want good low end torque and a nice flat torque curve CID is king. You can make a lot of power with a small engine, but you have to give up good low rpm manors to get it, short of a supercharger.

I have a Big Small block. 351 Windsor punched out to 418; 485 HP, 538 FT LBS. Hydraulic roller cam for that rumpity rumpity idle. I wanted less weight on the front end and more cubes for torque. No side pipes because I like the street style look of the originals.

I ordered and expect to accept delivery this month of a 342 Roush. I thought it had the best power to weight ratio at 450HP and about that much ft/lbs. of torque. I agree that all I've read says the BB engines are more problematic. I am not as mechanical as I should be and look forward to what should be a well-built, reliable, fast, daily driver that can still hold it's own against anything but a bigger cobra.

I have a Roush 511 c.i with 8 stack fuel injection. Gives me tuneability via the computer along with BB power and the sound that only can come from a big block. Waiting on twin superchargers to be fitted. Why? I would say why not? and because no one else has done it with this motor yet and no one to my knowledge has ever done it with a fuel injected motor, only supercharged on a carbed motor. If I was going autocrossing every weekend I would go with a aluminum high revving small block but it just doesn't sound the same to me

I already had a 68 gt500 with a BIG FE so I went with a 5.0 small block with a Kenne Bell Supercharger that get 26mpg highway and a whole lotta torque when you step on the loud pedal

351W, 350 hp. Why? Because that is all that I wanted to have. I have raced in my younger years with high HP motors. I wanted a nice lower HP little motor so I do not have to work on it all of the time.

Warmed up small block. Purpose built 408w,F.I., 8.5 compression, crower cam custom ground to match a Garret 93mm ceramic ball bearing intercooled turbo. At 7 lbs boost making 576 rwhp and 556 tq. Coupled with a t56 gets after it pretty good and cruises at 1400 rpm at 70mph in sixth. Good gas mileage around town and on the highway. Not a lot of rumble due to the low compression and turbo matched cam but pretty fun for a small block.

In my car I have a Scott Shafiroff BBC. She is a 540 inch aluminum Dart Gen 6 with their Pro one 325 CNC'd heads. It was an alky Comp Eliminator engine that has just had the compression ratio of 13.7 dropped to 11.4 so I can run gas. I have had a small block in the car but it just ain't no big block.

482 cubic inch stroked 427 FE side oiler with 2x4.
Because I love FE engines and nothing, I mean nothing can substitute the torque of a big block. Even stroked Windsors.

Big or Small they are all fun
I have a 5.0 bored and stroked to 354. 323 rwhp & 375 rwtq. Cruise at 1500 rpm in 5th, about 2000 rpm at 70 mph. I got 21 mpg for the 1227 miles to London and back to Alabama.

I have a Boss351, nice but not FE.
Anyone in NJ use these guys?
http://www.proformanceunlimited.com/...525HP_AAL.html
They have a great sounding 428 (575hp) and 390 (475hp) set up with videos. The 475hp 390 revs like a SB. Not cheap though......
