The legacy is reborn: Elegant Motors, then Indy Exotics, is now Classic City Motors

Looks like one of those West Coast Cobras with the padded dash and upholstered cockpit. And the wing looks just like the ones on the original FIA cobras when introduced at Sebring in '65.

It is a measure of the level of civility that prevails here that nothing was said about this for almost a full day after the original post.

Ron is right about you guys. When Elegant Motors went under and the shop manager brought it back as Indy Exotics and then closed up shop to try and bring it back last year with his son only to close before it actually opened and now to see that Classic City Motors has all the molds including the Cheetah I thought I should inform everyone at this forum we have more competition with the return of the Elegant Motor Cobra. They always had a wild looking version with a wing but most looked like the one below.
Elegant Motors Cobra
Mr bruce,
If its like the originals its frame is from a C3 Corvette, but they also made custom tube frames.

I dunno... I think the wing kinda improves the Cheetah's rear view.
Seriously.

Simple fact is you can only move away so far from the look/feel/shape of the original Cobra before you ARE going to catch some flak over the design.
OK, so now were updated on Classic City Motors, thanks for the heads up. I don't like the car, in virtually every way. Cars like this are degrading to the hobby. Another step away from the spirit and soul of what constitutes a quality replica Cobra. The cars are loosing and many have lost a lot of their mystique, their exclusiveness. Prices are being driven ever lower by 'cheap imitations', modern inexpensive running gear and mass production at 'affordable' prices.
Acceptance of this changing market, and it IS largely accepted now, and the changing demographics of owners is couched in terms exactly like that found on their web site. Modern, safer, cheaper, easier to get parts for, better handling, more drivability, etc. Yeah, whatever. You could say the same thing about ANY new modern car, but I don't want a Honda, or a Volvo or Chevy Citation or WTF ever. I want a replica Cobra closer to the spirit, look, feel, drivability of the real Cobras. Hot, dangerous, no cup holders, fast as hell and likely to burn your leg if your not paying attention. I am unimpressed and embarrased to be associated in the same hobby with an abomination such as this.

Which is primarily WHY I sold the Excalibur, simply put, just to far from the 'recipe' for me to continue to enjoy the car.
But theres an a$S for every seat, even for THIS car! The current Excalibur owner loves the car I sold him as much as I did at one point. It now has substantially more chrome, some neon lights, a killer radio and other 'improvements'. I did tell him if he EVER put a wing on the back I WOULD have to 'draw the line' and he couldn't park next to ME at the next cruise in (just kidding him of course, he's a good friend). Kidding him, but he also understands where I'm coming from, he KNOWS why I sold the Excal.
I am very happy with my ERA but perhaps I would be even more happy with any number of 'old school' replicas 'done right' to more original specs? This was a common theme not that many years ago and is becoming harder to find these days. Hi Tech, Contemporary, Kirkham, the continuation Shelby series are a few that come to mind, there are others. There are many modern replicas, not not just this one, I personally would NOT consider owning. There are to far removed from the 'recipe', there link to history is in question. There nice modern 'hot rods' and like I said before there's an a$$ for every seat. If your happy with it, well OK then.

The only people who know where you are coming from are on this forum as I have had just as many people ask if mine is an original as those with an Excaliber or ERA. Actually the original Elegant Motors mold was taken from an original and they would give you the shorter doors if you wanted to go with the tube frame or cut and re-weld the C3 frame.

The red one pictured below in this thread is a substantial improvement over the black one pictured above in this thread!
There are other people out there besides the ones on this forum?
You know it's not an easy path to critique a fellow members car, the time, place and methodology are crucial. Like my good friend who bought my Excalibur, we mostly talk about how good it looks and leave it at that. But on occasion, when the conversation drifts toward the originals and what is or isn't period correct, it can become uncomfortable, it can also be very rewarding. The history of the Cobra is a fascinating subject, FILLED with controversy. The history and the controversy continues to be written.
The spirit of a Cobra is this:
It was developed to FIRST 'kick a$$ and take names'. In the 1/4 mile, on the street or the local race track. Everything else is 'fluff', nice, but inconsequential.

If you look, you may have seen that Cobra Dan owns an Elegant Motors replica. It's a real nice car and Cobra Dan enjoys the crap out of it. He put several years into putting it together.
Dan's a heck of a nice guy has spent a lot if time helping the Deep South Cobra Club. He even wore the hat of president for awhile.
You just took a crap on his car. Nice work.

Curious minds need to know: Is CobraDan's car like the red one or like the black one? I suspect that when Excaliber posted, he never considered that CobraDan might be the owner of the black car or one like it. Even a pupule kanaka like Excaliber probably wouldn't bad mouth another guy's car to his face in public.
