Ron: Whether the can was new or old I see it as clear ridicule and poking fun at CS. As CS bashing I will admit it was very mild compared to the usual here.
Look its a free country I just don't understand the overwhelming negative attitude towards CS. I'm not his spokes person, nor am I his advocate, nor am I his defender.
I certainly know he has made mistakes and have disagreed with many of his decisions, including the decision to sue FFR and SPF and the recent attempt to shut down SAAC, but.....isn't knocking him tarnishing the legend and the lore of the Cobra saga and story. Its the car and the legend surrounding SAI, CS and the car that we all revere. Continually knocking CS seems counter productive to promoting it especially on a site dedicated to the Cobra real or otherwise. Doesn't it????? Thats my gripe.
As usual, I'm the lone wolf. No problem. I like that role.

Making mountains out of mole hills is not something a lone wolf, by definition, would do.
Enjoy whoever or whatever you think you might be. At least your striving towards something.
----------------------------------------------------
A lone wolf is a wolf that lives by itself rather than with others as part of a pack. Most, if not all, lone wolves are ones that were banished from their packs such as a former pack leader or discarded pups (wolves prefer the safety of a pack; therefore, they almost never leave by choice). As such lone wolves are usually stronger, more aggressive and far more dangerous than the average wolf that is a member of a pack. They have difficulty hunting, as wolves's favorite prey are large ungulates, and it is nearly impossible for a wolf to bring one down by itself (hunting on their own can be done, as lone wolves are naturally stronger and some specialise in hunting moose on their own). Instead, they will hunt smaller animals and scavenge. Sometimes, a lone wolf will find another lone wolf of the opposite sex, and the two will start a new pack.
Among non-canines, this term typically refers to individuals who prefer solitude and/or work alone.

There are quite a few great people in history that eventually make a mistake or mistakes, or do something that his/her fans don't like. Some may feel that the legend is tarnished and others do not. One that comes quickly to mind is Barry Bonds. I don't think anyone would disagree with CS's resume/accomplishments, but recent history, as you even say, has shown him to be less than virtuous.
Why exclude, ridicule, insult, berate or criticize people who want to offer an opposite or negative opinion on a site that's about a car that he was responsible for creating? Comments can be made from both sides of the aisle, so to speak.

Fair commentary is one thing. Repeated bashing and negative ridicule without any discussion of the positive on a site dedicated to the Cobra just seems out of place to me.
Thanks.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I don't think any discussion related to the deodorant will take away or tarnish the fact that Shelby built one of the greatest cars in history and won the World Manufacturer's Championship, among many other accomplishments.

Evan - Is this site dedicated to the Cobra or a dedicated forum for Cobra enthusists to discuss all things Cobra?
ded·i·cat·ed (dd-ktd)
adj.
1. Wholly committed to a particular course of thought or action: (no)
2. Designed for a particular use or function: (yes)
Since this forum has thousands of members that use the site to interact on many things, even some beyond the Cobra the definition #2 fits the bill.
I would expect, given your profession, that proper definitions would be important and consistent in your world.

Except for on All Cobra talk.
Very simply, there should be some more focus (any would be more then there is now which 0) on the positive rather then the negative as to CS.
Thats all.
Thanks.

Actually, NO, it's not counter-productive at all. I think while most of us have no problem with compartmentalization, we jest because for some odd reason you can't seem to grasp that CS was just a part of the whole. Of course, at some level we all love him for being at the right place, at the right time, with the right idea, and for putting it all together. But, there is simply no virture in his behavior, probably then, and definately now. There is no virture in his attempt to rewrite history. There is no virture in all the frivalious lawsuits, and there is no virture in all the other childish antics that a better man would leave alone. The car and the legend are one and the same, otherwise there would be no reverence. But, that reverence was created by so many, on so many levels. If Brock, Remington, Miles, or any of those who played a significant role in the whole she-bang were/could act the ass, they too would be fair game for ridicule. And, why not? Whiners don't make good heros. If anything, we ridicule these antics for his own good. Otherwise, it's like keeping some dark secret in a closet, and it's just not the truth or healthy in the end. This bad behavior only dirty's his own legacy and he ought to know better by now.
Are you sure you're not Amy B. in disguise?

ALL of us are here on this site because we have Cobras (or admire the hell out of other people's Cobras!) We DONT knock CS for building Cobras, Daytone Coupes, GT40s, Series 1's, selling Cobra wheels/engines/paraphrenalia etc etc etc.
As YOU yourself have said about his recent decisions, a LOT of us dont like some of CS's decisions he has made recently. We DO realize we have to take the good with the bad.
Now, if NONE of us had Cobras but drove Vipers, Corvettes, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Lotuses, etc etc etc AND THEN ridiculed CS for making "unsavory" decisions lately, then you would have a case for standing up and giving us the verbal beat-down that we would so richly deserve.
But we LIKE our Cobras, be they original, replica, fiberglass, V8, V10, turbo V6, and whatever else have you as a Cobra.
Lighten up, and look at the WHOLE picture, and laugh WITH us without us having to laugh AT YOU! lol !!!

Getting back on track with the thread...
You have to admit, a deodorant called "Pit Stop" is rather funny. What scent do you think of when you think of a "Pit Stop"? Gas, motor oil, anti-freeze, rubber, smoke, a sweaty driver or sweaty crew member? Yeah that is just the type of smell you want to apply to your arm pits to get the ladies to like you.
It might be interesting to be able to read the fine print marketing information on the can to understand, why "Pit Stop" is a good name for a deodorant.

I sent a question to the ebay seller to enlighten us with the other text on the can. Perhaps we'll understand the marketing genius behind the product, ... or just have another good laugh.

I believe that all of us here admire Shelby for who he was and what he accomplished. However, quite a few us now look in disgust at what he has become in the past ten or so years.

Sad but true Bill, in fact I'm 'over' the sad part, it's just simply 'true' these days. With recent actions in the last couple of years Shelby has forever changed the general 'tone' of the respect he used to enjoy at an earlier point in time. It's not just Club Cobra, Shelby has had a polarizing effect on the automotive world at large. His actions have certainly tarnished his 'legacy', and the irony is that is the very thing he sought and fought so hard to protect. Money and power CANNOT buy you respect, but it can buy you so called 'friends'.

a) he is a grumpy old man
b) he tries to make money off his name and reputation
c) he frowns on 'replica builders' who rip off his name and marque
d) etc.
so what?
Compared to most of us...
1) how many of the folks on this site have an American institution named after them (Shelby Cobra) (and which everyone on this site loves passionately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
2) actually, MULTIPLE institutions, named after him!!!
3) I am 58 years old, with a fairly good resume and history (shi!t, I even come up if you Google me...ROFLMAO!!!), and I AM A GRUMPY OLD MAN, and (other than in my own mind) I am not that famous, but still I b!tch about stuff. (irresponsible young people, people who end sentences with 'at', people who say 'comprised of' (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh...THAT is not even English), people who wear hats in restaurants, people who use adjectives where adverbs are required ('he hit it good'....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh...WELL)...etc, etc.). He has EARNED the right to be a GRUMPY OLD MAN...in spades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear god, leave him alone, LET HIM DO WTF HE LIKES, wait until YOU ALL GET THIS OLD!!!...
In a similar vein, I know Lance Armstrong here in Austin, and he suffers from the same BS reputation. He beat cancer, won the Tour de France 7 times, and yet people accuse him of being arrogant and distant. F**k it people, if I had beaten shingles and could even ride a damn bike, I would be the most arrogant man on the block!!!! I wouldn't even talk to you mere mortals!!
I truly realize that my chances of quashing disparaging remarks about Carroll Shelby on this site are approximately ZERO, (especially, as an Englishman, I still think he ripped off an Auto Carrier classic and never gave them enough credit...ROFL... which is why MY snake (REPLICA!!!) has AC logos, NOT Cobra logos...check out my pics),
but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you are not Colin Powell, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa or someone with an equally famous reputation for being a nice person AND doing good works, them MOVE ON!
Glyn
PS, this posting is the result of a) old age, b) too much Scotch at a late hour and c) a REALLY bad day!
PPS talking of attitude, if I owned a real Cobra I wouldn't even talk to the rest of you peasants...lol
PPPS when it is called a Smith Cobra or a Williamson Cobra or a Cooper Cobra, then the Smiths, Williamsons and Coopers of the world may b!tch!
PPPPS No offense meant to Smiths, Williamsons or Coopers...
PPPPPS sarcasm is an English hobby!!!!

I sense you would have a grammar fetish or grammar peeve hobby of sorts. At any rate, interesting to compare Mr. Shelby to the people you mention, and I think someone else compared him to the fallen grace of Barry Bonds. I in sort of the same tone feel he is slowly becoming the automotive version of OJ Simpson (most of you have either spat out your beverage or fallen from your PC chair). The once upon a time all time great who was a house hold name, but sadly we by nature tend to be remembered only of our last task. "what have you done for me lately"

LOL...you have me tagged, mea culpa!!!! I abhor the degradation of literary skills and spelling mistakes in emails and text messages...see, I AM a grumpy old man! (by the way, you probably mean 'beverage', not 'becerage'...see, I can't help it!).
I DO understand the issue with Carroll and (as you so well put it!) his affinity to the OJ situation, but he didn't kill anyone (allegedly...LOL), he just turned grumpy
Glyn
PS I actually have a high-heel fetish more than a grammar one...it's another 'English thing'...
