Default Aluminum Car Jack

Anyone give me some help picking a good aluminum car jack. Getting tired and too old to sling around the steel one I have. I'll be using it for my cobra but need it for a Corvette also so I guess a 2 ton model would work just fine.

I got mine at Sears. Its low enough to get under most parts of the Cobra.

Also, try Northern Tool. They have a lot of different jacks with 2 or 3 "low-riders".

I have the one from habor freight for 100+ bucks. 1.5 ton model. I love it as its so light. I'm sure the sears one is better and 2 tons, but the 1.5 is plenty for even the vette as your never jacking up the whole thing anyway. I'd get the lighter of the two.

Don't buy the Sears jack! Can't get parts and only warrantied for 90 days or 1 year? I had to take mine apart after it wouldn't lift the Cobra any more. The pump was full of aluminum shavings. I had to resurface the ball seat where one of the shavings got wedged between the ball and the seat. If you read the customer reviews, every one says it's a real POS!

Default Jack

Second not buying at Sears. I have two from Costco and they are great - low profile, they have a rubber pad and are very well made

I've had my Harbor Freight version for 5 years works great, easy to carry around, fits under the Cobra and the GT40 and it was $100.

If your not close to a Costco...Jegs makes a beauty for around $ 100. Mine has worked great for a year now.

The one I bought at OSH (Sears owned) had to be replaced within a year. I only used it on my Cobra. The replacement is the same model so I have my fingers crossed. I always use jack stands under the car when elevated just in case the jack lets go.

Absolutely. I had a good friend get stuck under his 55 Chevy for almost 5 hours when the jack he was using blew an o-ring. It's amazing that he was not killed.

Also, leaving a lot of weight on a jack while it is elevated wears out the jack faster.

Since the Cobra is so small & low, I bought these and they work great !

They are actually for a friend that I built a 1/4 scale winged sprint car. Thought these would be bring him a laugh, and they did. I was amazed they all work and are high quality. The jack is probably better than my full size jack !

I have the Rapid Pump 4000 from Harbour F. I love that thing. It fits under my cobra in all locations. Just a couple pumps to get it up. Silky smooth action. And its nice and light. I think its a great product.

It wasn't listed under the "Sale Items" section. How do you know it's on sale?
