Question Tire Question for Unique owners

what is the largest tire you can run under a Unique with Jag rear end? Lainhart is runing 295x50/15 and the tires rubs the front of the wheel well when he hits a low spot in the road at speed. He has 12" rims with 7/16" spacers. Can we raise the frame/body and install larger tires? Can we move the Jag rear a little to the rear of the car?

Dwight

Uniques (normally) have adjustable coilovers on all four corners, so tweaking your ride height is simply a matter of turning the adjusting collars on the shocks at each corner until the desired level is attained. Bear in mind that some settling wil occur after a couple of miles so it may take some trial and error to get it just right.

The center section of the jag rear is bolted to a plate on the underside of the rear frame. Moving it back would invlove a whole host of modifications including shock mounts, driveshaft, trailing arms (adjustable), brake lines, sway bar if equipped, and of course, the mounting plate holes. Then there may also be the issue of altering the manufacturer's geometry and frame loading specifications.

I have 275 60's (which are taller than the 295 50's) on mine and I had a rubbing issue crop up under hard cornering. I was reluctant to raise the ride height too much but luckily, I found that I had a broken right front sway bar mount. I fabbed up a new one and the problem went away. I would like to lower the rear a bit more now, and I am considering retrofitting a Unique rear sway bar to flatten out the cornering even more.

I hope this was helpful.

I'm running 295 50 16s and I too get some rubbing during hard cornering. I plan to get the rear anti sway bar soon. This should solve the rubbing problem.

One other thing to check is to make sure the rear suspension is mounted square to the frame. The mounting holes are not exactly slotted, but there is room for some miniscule twisting of the pumpkin when loosened, which can in turn magnify to about a full inch of fore/aft movement at the outside edges of the wheels.

I am running the same size tires with a rear swaybar and have no rubbing issues.
I am running on trigo knock-offs that are 9.5 inch wide wheels

I run 315/35/17s on one of their FIA cars, no rubbing. You may need to shorten the axles to fit your tire/wheel.
