Selling My NJ Titled FFR Cobra ?
Hey Guys (and gals?) -
Have had my Cobra for a little over a year now, and barely drive it. Not what I envisioned all those years of wanting one. I hate to sell it, after all, it was my dream to have one for 30 years. But I just don't use it enough to keep it ( I suppose)? Nothing fancy - a standard FFR Cobra MKII with about 900 miles on the car ( an auto 302 ). I know the fact that it is registered in the state of NJ as a collector car may help someone out in NJ if they are looking for one. My question to all of you Cobra owners. Am I making a mistake selling what was my dream car - or is it time to move on. How do I really know if I should sell my Cobra? Thanks JC

Pitch the Auto. Stick in a TKO 600 (0.8 fifth ratio). Put a cam in the engine that makes the idle talk music to your ears. If you can afford to, stroke it and top it off with a good set of heads, while your at it. When you get it pumping out 400 to 450 hp, it will actually become the car you dreamed about for 30 years, instead of a boring daily driver that looks like a Cobra.
It would be worth more too, but you likely will not get all that money back, if you still decide to sell it.

I have already put a custom under car exhaust, fuel cell and B&M Shifter, so getting my money back is not even in my thoughts. In my 30 years of wanting one, I envisioned me cruising in it alot more. Driving in it by myself is not as fun as having someone to cruise with and my 2 little kids and or wife don't have any interest.

Well, when you have gotten to the point of asking the decision is already made. Now that decision can change if you cannot get close to what you are asking. Llist it for sale on Cobra Country, and if all you get is low balls it may be easier for you to keep once you realize you really do not have that much money tied up in it. Then you really start enjoying the car.

How about other Cobra owners in your area? I hated driving alone when I had mine also and then I found 10 others around here close and we would go for weekend drives and breakfast. Made owning and driving the car a lot more fun. Unfortunately due to the heat here and my health, an open car is not for me any more and I had to sell it. I wanted to cry when I drove it into my cousin's trailer as I knew that would be the last time I would ever drive it. Any yes, I know it is just a car and a material thing, but I miss it every day.

I would only sell it if you have to. I don't use mine as much as I would like, but it was my dream as well. Mine is paid for so the worse thing that happens is I pay auto ins. each year and it takes up a space in my garage.
Keep it unless financially you can't otherwise you will miss it.
my 2 cents!

JC,
There is a large gathering of Cobra enthusiasts once a month at the Chester diner on RT206 in Chester, NJ. Why not stop in and join them for a breakfast and sometimes a nice cruise in the country afterwards. It is a wife friendly event with at least 10-15 guys and about another 5-8 wifes joining in monthly..........If after that you still feel the need to bail out on the Cobra, you can ask around that bunch (myself included) to see if there is anyone out there looking, or if they may know someone looking...........

If you aren't enjoying/using the car as much as you thought - SELL IT. Even if you don't need the money, maybe you can spend it on something you will enjoy. I just finished my Cobra and have a total of 350 miles on it. It is everything I wanted it to be and it's a blast to drive. That being said, I enjoy building more than driving. I too am toying with the idea of selling. Good luck on your decision.

Great signature. So very true. Most are judged by their most recent actions and those tend to overshadow the past actions. A buddy of mine is a pro football player and he always says - "you're only as good as your last play".

I have thought about selling mine from time to time for similar reasons. My wife loves the car, but we also have 2 small kids, which means that we can't go out together unless we get someone to watch the kids, so she rarely goes out with me. My daughter will go out with me occasionally, but my son is still too young, so most times I go out by myself, not that I mind that at all , but it would be nice to be able to take out the whole family. So, I have thought about selling it and buying a 4-seater convertible instead, but everytime I go out and look in the garage, I realize how much I like just looking at the car sitting there in the garage. Plus, when the kids get older I think they would be really pissed knowing I had a cobra when they were kids and sold it- I know I would be pisssed if my dad had a cobra when I was a kid, but sold it before I was old enough to drive!

Think about what you're saying...........if you truly "hate to sell it", don't.
I've heard many stories like this, a person sells a car that he/she wanted for a long time, only to REGRET the decision years down the road.
If it's not hurting anything sitting in your garage, just let it sit.
Just my opinion.

Ain't that the truth. My son won't have his license for a few years, and even then my policy has a "youthful driver exclusion." Nevertheless I'm sure he wouldn't like it if it wasn't there when he was old enough to safely appreciate it.

You guys are right. Unless someone offered me a ridiculous number, I would not sell it. I really don't need the money, so why not at least let it sit and look pretty in the driveway and garage? I would rather have it sit and available, then not have it at all. You definitely have helped me make up my mind. Thanks Club Cobra members!

Just like the Harley commercial with the old man sitting on the porch telling the grand kids "there is nothing like the sound of a Harley with thre roar of the engine and the wind blowing in your face!" "You had a Harley Grandpa?" "Naw, I had to spend the money on aluminum siding." And with that, the kids walk away with their heads down. You don't want to be a dad or grandpa telling your kids or grand kids about the Cobra legacy and then have to tell them you sold it because you didn't drive it!
I told my kids they are not allowed to sell the Cobra, it stays in the family. I put too much work into building the car and wan't it passed down to my kids and grand kids. I just hope they can still buy gas to run it!
