Jay, on the one hand:
. . during your brief tenure as an owner of Hurricane Motorsports, you showed nothing but the highest integrity and we (HM owners) felt you were the guy to continue and improve the Hurricane brand. You were more than fair in dealing with issues that arguably were not your responsibility.
However, on the other hand:
. . you should of taken the high road in your separation from HM. How about . . . " Due to disagreement on the future direction . . " or " Due to constraints on my time from other. . . " and " I wish the (new, other, remaining, whatever) owners the best of luck . . "?
Instead, you come off sounding like the spoiled kid that gets in a fight in the sandbox and storms home with his toys.
I wish you only the best going forward as well as the new owners of Hurricane Motorsports.

From Hurricane's site:
"Along with the purchase of company and the relocation, new owners announced they have appointed long time Cobra owner, driver and enthusiast Jay Nordstrom as President and Managing Partner. Jay will be overseeing the process of making sure all kits shipped will maintain true Cobra style and each kit will provide years of pleasure for owners. Nordstrom will oversee improvements to current products and to review and incorporate customer?s suggestions into future production as well as manage daily operations."

I guess they will be updating the site with new information soon. Meanwhile, don't loose any sleep over it Jay, sometimes these things work out for the better.

Last time we spoke, you were disassembling 1037 to make your own personal list of changes for the new and improved HMS 427s/c. I never thought it possible..

Sad to hear this. From all I have heard and learned, Jay was the man you wanted to have in charge. I would really like to know what happened and how it can/will affect the product as I still have Hurricane on my list the kit I would most likely buy when I get to that point.

Jay, if you don't want to post to the public your reasons I understand, but I would really like to know if you are inclined to discuss.

Sorry things did not work out....you had some great plans in motion for Hurricane that I know would have paid off real soon. In any case I will stay tuned to see if the direction might change once again.

When I visited Jay a month or so ago, he told me his plans
for Hurricane. I was blown away with what I heard. In my
opinion he was on the right track. He had the consumer covered and was wanting to find any and all areas that could be improved business and product wise. I'm sad that he won't get that chance.
I don't know what happened and I'm content not to know.
I do hope that there is a Hurricane around for the future. It needs to be there for the consumers so they have more choices and comparisons. Life is good when there are more choices.

After reading Hersh's reply, I want to say that I want to know if the reasons for leaving are due to something that would make me not want to deal with the company, or are those concerns unfounded.

I am the type of person who will spend more money for the same product from competitor if I believe that competitor will take care of me if I have problems. I really just want to know if Jay's reasons are related to how the customer is/will be treated, the quality of the product, or if they are just internal issues that will not affect the quality or affect the customer.

I was just going to talk with him in person when I see him at a future local meeting if he did not reply here. My last post was just to clarify why I asked in the first place. After re-reading my post and Hersh's post, it sounded as if I wanted to know the specifics when I really don't care, I just want to know if it is something that would affect me as a potential customer, so I felt inclined to clarify.

I was saddened when I first heard that Hurricane was to be sold. At that time I had decided to go with them, it was just a matter of making the final arrangements. But then the first deal fell through and everything was up in the air… so I second thoughts.
Once they worked out a deal with CRW and Jay joined I had hoped that things would settle down and get back normal for Hurricane. But, in the mean time, I had decided to go with Factory Five. I ordered my complete MK 3.1 kit on July 7th and it was sitting in my garage on July 30th. My decision to go with Factory Five was reinforced by the way they have handled the recent shock issue … and now with Jay leaving I feel that I have made the right decision for me. I wish Hurricane the best of luck in the future.

Jay was ready for this adventure 110 percent. Hurricane was going to be first class all the way. I'm very thankful all this came about before I went to work there.

After I heard that Hurricane was For Sale I thought it would be a great deal to bring it to Texas and it would be even better if Jay were in charge of the company. Jay is well known and liked in the industry, and very familiar with the Hurricane Cobra. I did feel at the time, it would be a better company and the product would only get better as time went along.

Then low and behold it was coming to fruition and Hurricane was indeed going to come to Texas and CRW announced on the Hurricane Website that Jay was to the the "President and Managing Partner". (their words not mine)

As I listened to Jay talk to unhappy people that had just received their Dream Cobras with untold number of problems, he ALWAYS stepped up and did whatever it took to make existing customers happy with their purchase. Even though the Cobra was purchased from the previous owners of Hurricane. One has been completely repainted.

He talked everyday about what was being done and going to be done to make the car the best built and most affordable in the industry, and all I could say was WOW. Some of the ideas he has shared with me were unbelievable. I am sure I did not hear all of the ideas but the ones I heard literally blew me away.

Then things started to deteriorate. I'll let someone else tell that story. Quiet frankly it isn't my place to do so. Next thing I heard Jay was to tender his resignation and sever all ties with Hurricane-Motorsports. Just as Jay said he was going to do something, he did it.

Integrity Prevails, If you say you are going to do something then you should do it!

This is without a doubt a substantial loss to Hurricane-Motorsports.

I can't help but to ask myself a question or two.

If Jay left Hurricane on his own, (and he did) what makes anyone think things were going well with-in the business?

Why has Hurricane- Motorsports not responded with a public release statement about what happened? (That alone should speak VOLUMNS to everyone following this) Over 1,800 people have read this thread, still no response.

Why has Hurricane-Motorsports not updated their own website to address what could potentially bring this company to it knees? (or worse)

Why has Hurricane-Motorsports not answered the question on their own website forum that was posted by a would be client of the company? This is from someone that wants to buy a car for Goodness sakes. Still no response. (no company can survive without customers)

Will Hurricane-Motorsports step up to the plate and reimburse Jay for his many thousands of dollars he personally has put into the company during the purchase? Jay has several cars in the shop getting them fixed for existing clients of the old Hurricane. Remember he was the "President and Managing Partner" and working on behalf of Hurricane-Motorsports.

If two other people have left Hurricane-Motorsports (Board Directors) who in the hell is making decisions about day to day operations?

If Hurricane had contracted for a building (actually two) in Dallas, why are there NEW FOR SALE sings placed back in front of the buildings?

I can only speculate the answers. It just seems to me that there are an awful lot of unanswered questions at this point. The fact that no public response has been made speaks VERY clearly to me. If they will treat the Cobra world like this when they are starting up the business what makes anyone think they will treat you any different when they get your deposit money?

You are correct. As a potential customer you need to know far more than I or others that are just interested in what is going on do. I hope that when you get to talk to Jay you can get some answers that will help you in your selection.

Steve's post saddens me as it confirms some of my fears. I am withholding any decision on what I will buy until I get to the point of making my deposit with a specific company, but the Hurricane kit was at the head of the line for the build it yourself kits for me. The biggest reason was the body I like better than the Factory 5. If they are out of the picture, then the Factory 5 is at the top of that list. Having more choices is a benefit to the consumer, but if that company is not good to the customers, then they are off my list.

The longer the company waits to make a formal statement and reassure the general public everything will be run by someone that knows what the hell they are doing the worse off they will be. You NEVER let a key executive leave without a public release statement.

We as CC members have seen this before. I do not recall one single company surviving the fallout.

Absence of a formal statement is a death sentence. Hurricane should publicly address the situation and proceed. I am not saying they have to spill the beans on every little detail or the juicy stuff. There are some things that need to stay in the boardroom, we all know that. The problem is speculation is PUBLIC and runs ram-pet like wildfire.

What they have is an executive that has abruptly tendered his resignation and they have not responded with any explanation or plans for the future. If the resignation is amicable OK, if not OK. But abstinence of response is far worse than speculation on any CC members part.

I guess I am proof of that Steve. I immediately started thinking, "What if this is related to how customers will be treated?" I started speculating on worst case for me and then wanted to know to calm my suspicions or at least confirm that I need to look elsewhere.

Trying to understand this. A group buys the Hurricane name and tooling. BUT, they are not currently producing cars, they're not holding anyone hostage, and they're not holding people's money. There could be legal issues preventing all of the parties from talking right now.

There's a lot of builders and manufacturers that have real perception problems. Hurricane could come out with a statement in a month and probably be in the same business environment that all builders are in right now...a weak one!
