Putting two fans in engine compartment
I need to vent more air from the engine compartment. Has anyone tried using a couple tube type fans to exhaust the hot air out the bottom like NASCAR guys do?

I haven't tried that but on one car I did adjust the hood latches so the back of the hood was about 1/4 inch above flush. Took that out if I was going to show the car, but it got rid of a lot of hot air in the engine compartment. And I see several other type cars at the track that have done the same thing.

Similar to what Ron did, I used rubber buttons instead of complete hood seal.

Yes John, I do it. Last summer I had participate at an old car's stream in the montain and procession speed was about 20mph. After 30mn (about 10 miles), my engine water temperature was above 240°F and I was obliged to stop! Usually at normal speed, water temperature doesn't exceed 220°F in my car but in this particular low traffic, only one fan was not enough to maintain a good water temperature. So, I have decide to add a second one. The first one was located in front of the radiator. It was working in pushing mode and drove by a thermostat. The second one is located in back of the radiator (see pictures). It is working in pulling mode and it is drove by a manual switch. Both fans are identical. They are 16" diameter and nominal flow is about 1800 cfm. However, with the push-pull installation the total air flow should be about 3000cfm. However, I have to confess that until now I don't need yet to switch on the second one because I don't have receive from the club any invitation to participate at a new old car's stream

If that still doesn't work, try a single puller fan mounted behind the radiator with a shroud. The shroud is the key.
It pulls a ton of air through the radiator and might allow you to get rid of the front pusher.

I have two pusher and one Spal puller fan now but no shroud. I know the NASCAR guys use exhaust fan(s) in the engine bay to get rid of the heat by aiming the fans out the bottom of the car. I guess blocking the hood up would be a fix and tell me if the exhaust fans might do the trick. Maybe I should just stay home when it's 110 degrees. Thanks for the inputs guys.

Get 2 4" fans from boating world
double ugly John you will need 2 relays and 2 4" fans from boating world they are about 25-30 each. You mount them on the shields if you have an era to suck out the engine air through the louvers in the fenders. You need to get the high temp silver tape rap and do this to each one twice to stop the fans from melting in the heat. Have one tested them once seam to be working OK. Can feel the heat coming out of the louvers. Looks like a old world war airplane with the short exhaust system and the stains on the hood cowl. Rick L.

Hey you guys! I've been continplating that very idea, but have not heard of anyone actually doing it. I pretty much have my heat problem under control except when I'm stuck in traffic and it's 115 degrees out (Lake Havasu City, AZ) the car gets up to about 210 degrees but cools down very fast when you get going. A fan shroud and puller fan has worked best for me so far but I would like to get that heat out from under the hood in stop & go traffic. Boat 4" exhaust fans will work...if they don't melt.
