Default Backdraft vs Superformance

Really had my mind set up on the Superformance but decided to also do a little research on Backdraft.....Still a newbie and trying to be diligent in my research, but figured I'd get input from those with more experience.

Backdraft... price, handling, styling. To me the Backdraft looks more curvaceous in the rear fender area. Do not worry about the BDR/BMW rear end. I have drag radials and 450 rwhp and I drive it like its stolen. 3500 miles. I am bias, however they are both awesome.

If you can, go look at both cars. I had a BDR parked next to my SPF last week at a car run. They are very different cars. I am biased as well, but I did not care for a few things I noticed on the BDR. My.02

Cars are diametrical different. The only thing in common is SPF and BDR produce the most number of cars a year. Different wheelbase, shape, price, suspension, fit and finish etc. They are worth exactly what you pay for them. Drive both, there is no right or wrong answer they are both excellent in their own way.

Let's qualify that statement with the most "manufactured replicas" (i.e. rollers, turn key minus...whatever you want to call them) per year. I believe FFR is the clear winner for selling the most pure "kits" for the Cobra replicar hobby. FFR's production numbers are quite ahead of SPF in that regard.

They are both great cars. I looked at both cars very hard & I went with the Backdraft. This is my second BDR as my 1st car was sold and I could not refuse the deal . My new car is # 656 & this is a new mold for BDR with many improvements and a new paint process. I did a custom color (tungsten silver) Aston Martin color with no stripe. We did an original style dash and the seats were made in England. The BDR with the BMW rear has no problems !BDR has 17" 315 Goodyear eagle ones and they hook up . I have a Roush 402 SR that makes 498 HP / TKO 600 . I drove both & felt the BDR ride & handling was better in my opinion? Again both great cars so check them out & do your homework ,that was a fun part of the process.

Just my .02¢ worth. Look at several of the makes as they are all good and have some things that some people like and some that others don't. Then get the one that you like and build it the way you want it. After all, it is your car and what I like you may hate.Myself if I could afford one and lived in a state that I could register it in I would look hard at the Shelby's and Kirkhams. But Backdraft is a very good car as is ERA if you are trying to have as near an original looking one as you can get.

I have a early BDR that sat for many years but is a dream on the street and the track, I am biased as I got a great deal on mine so didn't look anywhere else since I use to work for the company. I also have 315's on mine and I beat on it often and even run it down the track, and those meats are MT Drag radials, so every car (kit or replica) needs tweeked or some improvements to it to make you happy. Spend some seat time behind the wheel of both and make the choice you want to.

The fit and finish on my SPF is "unreal". I have a early SPF with Glasruit paint. The company has been great to work with too.

As far as drivng a demo, I would not let that make my entire decison because it takes some work to get a car sorted and dialed in. Drive at least two demos if you can.

Early on I drove a Midstates car because they were located 200 miles from me. The car was terrible. Clunked, shook and so on. The next Midstates I drove was sorted and nicely setup. Just a few chassis/shock settings can make a big diff.

That's not exactly true. I am told you can now upgrade from the Pinto rear and the Vega brakes. Walmart would never let you do that....

When a SPF and BackDraft are next to each other, it is clear which car looks more authentic. As for minor things like handling, keep in mind that the SPF does not use parts from other manufacturers that were not intended for a Cobra. I believe BDR uses Toyota front end?? (someone correct me if I am worng) In my conversations with BDR owners I have heard many complaints on the suspension. Look into that aspect....

I went thru the same process last year and went with SPF and the car has been outstanding in every way.
