Default Roush is replacing my motor

Roush is replacing my 402R with a brand new 427R.
3/07 Vintage Motor Sports installed a Roush 402R in my new Backdraft. During the first season I was using a little more oil than I should have been. VMS documented oil consumption and informed Roush of condition. Car was running strong and I was informed I could use the car for the rest of the season and motor would be repaired during the winter. December Jay and Brian from VMS came to my house with an enclosed trailer and picked up my car. Motor was removed and shipped back to Roush to be repaired and my car was put into storage for the winter.
Roush informed me the motor had a stuck ring and all pistons and rings were replaced and all cylinders honed out.
Spring 2008 I received my car back from VMS and found out they put it on the lift and went through the car replacing my rear shocks (one was leaking) and making a number of adjustments at no cost to me.
Shortly after receiving my car back again I was using more oil than I should have and notified VMS. I promptly received a call from Todd Andrews at Roush who asked me to monitor the oil consumption and ensured me this mater would be taken care of. After several weeks condition was the same and informed VMS and Roush.Todd Andrews again stated he can take care of the problem now or at the end of the season if I wanted. Todd offered to send the Roush enclosed car Carrier from Michigan to my house in Massachusetts to pick up the car and bring it back to their custom shop to replace the motor. I appreciated the offer but felt more comfortable sending it to my dealer Vintage Motor Sports. Todd offered me a new 427R to be installed by VMS at no cost to me.
To say the least I couldn't be more impressed in the way Roush has handled this from day one. From the beginning I was dealing with people who truly wanted to make things right and rectify the problem. Throughout all this I used my car never worrying about it not being taken care of. All companies can have a problem with there product it's how they handle it that is most important.

I know Todd Andrews and Jack Roush and that's the exact reason I run a Roush in my Superformance. Being treated first class may cost a few dollars more but it's worth it to me. db

Pete,

From other posters on other threads, you are a breath of fresh air.

I am sorry to hear your loss of the use of the car, and of course all the concerns that go with that.

I am glad to hear that Roush (or if it had been any other motor builder), is meeting and or exceeding your expectations of warranty.

The way you have handled the issues is a credit to you, and a lesson to others that just want to complain in similar circumstances. Sounds like you handled the problem with class and an open mind, making it easier for the suppliers to provide the service you should get.

Kudos to you, the installer, and Roush!

Eric

Hi Peter - can you tell us the details of how much oil your motor was consuming?

Good story, with a good ending. Thanks for the positive report!

I have a Ford Motorsports 351/385hp in my SPF, 7 years old and approx 45,000 miles. I have been looking at upgrading my motor, and with the service behind the sale like you share, Roush will be high on my list.

Thank you Eric, Vintage Motor Sports and Roush are impressive companies to deal with and have made what could have been an unpleasant experience into a very refreshing one.

Jim, I would buy another Roush motor if building a new car. They always made me feel confident ever thing would be taken care of. Allot of little details I left out like Todd Andrews answering my call on his cell phone while at the airport going away with his Family vacation. I told him I would speak with him when he gets back after he told me were he was but he wanted to continue the conversation and get the ball rolling on my new motor. When the problem first started I was told by Roush I could have any authorized dealer of my choice repair the motor. They were making the hole proses easy with no Resistance.

Good to hear. There are never enough of these threads. Many bad experiences are posted when things go wrong, but only a handful of good experiences when thing are bad.

Thanks for all the responses. I really didn't know how this would be received posting my experience with Roush on an open forum. I'm starting to wonder if I should post my similar experiences dealing with Backdraft and Jay and Brian at Vintage Motor Sports.

Post it. Normal everyday stuff does not need to be posted, but things like this will effect whether or not some people buy from some businesses. If the business has gone above and beyond what others do, then they should be recognized for that.

Thanks for the story. I just got BDR #688 and am having some roughness on acceleration around 2500 rpm on my 342R. I'm due to bring it in to Backdraft for the free 500 mile checkup and Frank Dodd assured me that they'll take care of everything not up to par. I have no doubt, after hearing your story, that whether there's a problem with simple tuning or a problem with the engine or carbueration I'll have no problem getting things solved between Roush and Backdraft. I'll post after next month's checkup.

Well not to high jack the thread but here is one for ya.

Last month I ventured up to the Woodward Dream cruise in Michigan and a bunch of us went to the MILAN dragway to run our cars.

Well my first pass I snapped the rear passenger axel in half.
So I call Jay (Vintage Motorsports)right after and tell him what happened, I asked him if he could overnight another out to me.
He said he would call Reg and see what he could do.

Well that next day at 10:30 am the new axel came in and I had it back on the road by 3:00pm.

How is that for service.

Oil consumption was about a quart every 100 to 200 miles.

mln385, thats exactly what I'm talking about. I had the same thing happen Easter night. After getting my car home I sent Jay (Vintage Motor Sports) an e mail explaining what happened. I didn't want to send it that night knowing he would go into work mode on Easter but I was leaving early the next morning so I sent the e mail and got a quick response back that he would take care of it the next day. The next day Jay said he is getting me two new different style half shafts and offed to install them or I could hire someone up here to install them and Backdraft will pay for the repair. Jay overnighted the shafts to me and my mechanic installed them. Backdraft promptly rein burst me for the repair.
