From Powdercoat to Chrome
How does one remove powdercoat from a part that one wants to have chromed?
FYI:
I was thinking about having my ceramic coated sidepipes chromed but I talked to 2 chrome businesses and they said that they will not do it!! Both shops said that the ceramic coating had to be removed but they did not know how to remove it. They polished up nicely after the "wet" Oregon trip so I guess I am staying with the coated pipes!!

There's no "clean" way to remove ceramic coating. It must be bead/sand-blasted off. The chromer probably freaks at that because of the rough surface it leaves, making smoothing the base nickel almost impossible.

I believe the original question was about "powder coating" not ceramic(?). Two different things here. If you're talking about normal color powder coating then you can use what is commonly refered to as MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone ?SP). It will remove the powder coating easy. If the question was all about ceramic, I don't know how one would get ceramic off without hurting the part. So never mind!

The question was about powder coating removal so thanks for the heads up!!
The ceramic coating part of the thread was just what I had found out about chroming ceramic coated parts!!

The pipes are not powder coated. Powder coating melts at 400 degrees. They are ceramic coated

I had a set of exhaust manifolds powder coated with high temp powder coating. It has a temperature range from 1000-1200 degrees. It never melted and looked great plus was pretty cheap.
