4 Post Lift
Is anyone familiar with this lift?
http://www.americanautomotiveequipme...s-p/ss7000.htm
I'm thinking about buying one, as they are running a special that makes them not much more expensive than a comparable Kwiklift setup, and I think I can even squeeze a few more $$ out of them. It would be helpful to hear from anyone who has one before I pull the trigger.
Thanks!

Made in USA?
I didn't notice any claims that the product wasn't manufactured in China. I'm always leary when the company name makes implications not backed by specific claims. I recall comments from forum members in the past regarding imported lifts and associated quality, particularly something that weighs a few tons and you sit underneath.

I have an eagle 4 post and it is great, don't have any dealings with this company, I can say the Eagle is made and built here in the USA. This company does not say if it is or isn't.

vanoochka,
I have an Eagle 4-post lift, about 4 years old. It isn't US-made, it IS flimsy - NOT recommended.
I have a friend with an Eagle lift several years older than mine - much better made, and was the reason I bought mine. They may have switched their manufacturing in the interim.
Caveat emptor....

I just bought my 2nd Eagle lift and it is the same fine quality of the 1st one which is about 4 years old now. There may be better (more expensive) ones out there but I am 100% sold on my Eagle 4-posters.

Just bought a prokar 9k lift. Display from show so already assembled etc. Paid 2300.00 total. IMO it is the same as eagle and direct lifts. These are the only ones i have seen up close. The rotary lift is better built until now. They are switching there hobby 4 post lifts to the direct lift design or should i say they bought the direct lift design or company. Now you can get it in any color you want from Rotary. So far so good. Two days so far and the wife still shaking her head. She doesn't understand the speakers in the wall and ceiling either for surround sound nor the Keg frig in garage!! I know local guys will perk up!!

I looked at the safety locks on all of them and found the DIRECT-LIFT PRO-PARK 8 Standard was the best. (The lock system is just like the Rotary) Works perfect. Had it for over a year and use it almost everyday. If you are in San Jose, CA, then call Tom Tweedie who is over in Santa Cruz @ 831-332-8669. He will talk your leg off but he really knows his stuff. You can buy thru him and he does installs if you need it. He is part of this group. http://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/...k8standard.htm

I've got an American Automotive Equipment lift that works just fine...now. I did have one of the cables blow when I had my half ton GMC about 6" off the floor. The company replaced the cable and I installed it in about 30 minutes. No problems since and the lock system does seem to be very substantial. Couldn't beat the price and for my needs, is just fine. I asked about where the lift was manufactured and was told "off shore" which I took to mean China. Getting hard to find much of anything not made there.

I have that lift now. It’s the second lift I have had (due to move across the state). The first lift I had was a Backyard Buddy which seems to be superior but the price was so much higher I decided to give this life a try. It has done the job well so far (2 years). It sways a bit when the car goes up where the bb did not at all. I called the company who assured me it was normal. Overall for the price I am happy with it.

4 post lifts
vanoochka:
I just got off the phone with a rep for Bend Pak (USA made),
that I met at the SEMA Show. I told him some of the Club Cobra guys may call to inquire about the lifts and he said he would give the best pricing that he could to the CC members.
Call: Marco Ortiz @ 800-261-7729
IMHO, standing and working under a Chinese lift is a risk I'm not willing to take just to save a few hundred dollars. If there's anything worth pay more to get quality it's for a car lift !!!

Anchor2 - "Normal" and "safe" are not necessarily the same thing. I don't think I would take a Chinese manufacturer's (or US distributor's) word for the swaying being OK. They don't have lawyers in China for the widows. Man, the picture of someone underneath a collapsed lift with a ton or two on it is NOT pretty! I guess the end would be quick, but that's about the ONLY redeeming aspect I can think of.

I too own a lift but to be unbiased I won't comment on the name. Just remember a few things if you are going to purchase a lift:
1) You will probably only by one in your lifetime(although I have heard 1% of folks have two)
2) You will put heavy cars on it and you (your life and possible others) will be working under it.
3) Those heavy cars are most likely cars you are very fond of, could be your dream car.
If you keep these in mind, you will make the right choice. I would hate to see anyone pinch pennies with a decisioni like this one.

Bull Sh!t. I've never seen any lift that didn't have a little movement. That's includes the BYBuddy.

A buddy just bought a RFP9. Very nice, very expensive and yes, it has movement like the rest of them.

movement is a loose word...some lifts to move more than others......if you are talking about swaying then you are wrong with the nicer lifts..I have never seen some of the nicer american lifts sway.

As long as you have 4 independent posts that are not fastened securely to each other, you'll have movement. I guess it depends on your definition of movement.
